How or where do I check my transmission fluid on my 2000 grand am gt v6 automatic?

You don't.

If I remember right, the transmission is a sealed unit. Can't even get a complete fluid flush on them.
Crappy ass tranny.

True. There actually is a red cap on the tranny, but you can't really "check" the fluid - no dipstick or anything.

Buy a Chilton's manual. It explains how to use the "fluid check" bolt. It is a bolt located at the proper fluid level line on the side of the tranny (only accessible from underneath the car). When you remove this magical bolt and you get a small drip of tranny this indicates the fluid level is good. If you get no drip it means the fluid needs to be topped up. How much needs to be added when topping up the fluid is a mystery. Trial and error thing I guess. Thanks General Motors for coming with these great f*cked up inventions, I mean technological marvels.

I have done complete fluid exchanges on these transmissions. Believe it or not this trans is fairly reliable. I don't see many of these coming in eith trans problems.

And yes checking fluid level is a pain.

Really??

Mine hates life. Requires fluid changes every 10,000 miles for decent performance.
I have a feeling it has an issue. Pontiac told me it just needed a fluid change at 58,000 miles, when it still had warrenty. Well....changed it then, and not 4,000 miles later, the tranny started slipping on the 1-2 shift again. Took it to a friends shop, and he changed the fluid for free for me, and that was about 5,000 miles ago. Slipping again, randomly.
Car now has 68,000 on it.
