1994 Dodge Ram 1500 5.9 - transmission?curtishall 06-01-2005, 04:02 AM I could pickup a 1994 Dodge Ram 1500 that was sitting around in a field for a couple months for pretty cheap. The going rumor is that the transmission leaks, and both seals have been replaced. My question, a buddy has a couple 727 transmissions that he has laying around. This truck is a the 5.9 liter V8 magnum...will the 727 transmission slap into this? What engine is in this series of truck, a 318 or 360 or? fredjacksonsan 06-01-2005, 08:00 AM 5.9 is the 360cid. The 727 would work, but you have to consider that the bell housing and bolt pattern on the transmission might be different than what is on the truck now. You may be able to swap bell housings if they don't fit. -edit- You might be better off rebuilding the transmission that's in the vehicle now. (Or topping off the trans every couple days and living with the leak) BleedDodge 06-01-2005, 11:03 PM The 727 would last until the truck couldn't drive another foot though. Bulletproof transmissions. fredjacksonsan 06-02-2005, 08:05 AM True....so true. wafrederick 06-03-2005, 06:59 PM Also check the bottom transmission line going to the radatior. There is a plastic checkball inside and does cause problems, the checkball melts. If you see it,remove it by drilling it out.Make sure to blow out the debis inside also. wafrederick 06-03-2005, 07:02 PM The only differance is the torque converter. The 360 has a weight on it and the 318 does not have a weight on it curtishall 06-03-2005, 07:02 PM Found out the problem (atleast a big one), took down the transmission and popped the front seal off...out came a very worse (pieces of metal falling off) front bushing....apparently to reinstall a new one I have to yank off the transmission pump and some other crap...I took it to a guy locally who said he'll charge me $60 if I buy the parts... vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
