85 Ram B250 Van

I have an 85 Ram B250 Van and the damn thing keeps stalling for no reason, I've been driven it a couple of times and the engine just stops without warning, it isn't the starter cause we just had it replaced, the battery was just fully charged, replaced the voltage regulator, and just today replaced the alternator... it still just dies...

I think its an electrical problem but I'm no macanic, it runs great and at first it starts up well, once it stalls though it a bitch to get it started again, I thought it could be a fuel problem so I but a little gas in the carboator (after it stalled) and it still didn't go, it seems that it wants to start but it won't spark, can anyone help me?

If you don't have spark, check the ignition control box, the coil, the post-ballast resistor voltage, the wires/plugs etc. Also there is a hall effect type trigger in the distributor which is worth checking too (test it at the plug that comes out just below the cap in the dist. body, it's the only one on my van. it's two conductors.)

It could be your carb. My van won't run if you go more than half throttle, or allow it to try to downshift (passing or climbing hills). My entire fuel system is fairly new except the carburator. I tried the rebuild route, but the carb is all funked up.

Any haines or chilton manual type of book should contain the resistance parameters and the diagnostic procedures. I went thru my ignition system in about 30minutes with a basic ohm meter and a haines book.
The fuel system in these vans is basic, so there could only be a few culprits.

Good luck, and I hope this helps,

Jay
