Primera P11 1.6 power loss

I have just purchased a 1998 Pimera 1.6 SI (UK Spec) it is a P11. Multi point fuel system.

I am having a power loss if I accelerate quickly.

With the car stationary, if I accelerate slowly it will rev up to 6000rpm. If you accelerate quickly it stays at about 2500 to 3500 rpm.
Accelerating quickly when on the road it struggles to get above 3500rpm

I first thought it would be a blocked exhaust, this has been split and the symptoms are the same, bit noisy when doing this..

I also thought it was the fuel pressure this was checked to be 2.7 bar. I also connected a fuel pump skid to the engine eliminating the cars fuel system and filter.

There are also no fault codes showing. from the engine managment.

It has been connected to a garages diagnostic equipment to check out the ignition, and all seems ok.

I have also ensured the air intake is sealed, although there is a slight crack in the rubber gasket where the filter connects I would say It was 95% there.

Are there any solenoids in the muti point injection system which may be opening slowly or anything in the air control system that would cause this fault.

I have been working on this for weeks and I am pulling my hair out, pleae help.

Any suggestions on a solution for what this problem is would be appreciated.

Rgds

This may be the answer you are looking for as my Primera was suffering from the same symptoms following an exhaust change a couple of years back and despite numerous visits to the workshop no diagnostic code was ever found. Finally discovered that it was the Airflow Meter and apparently a common fault on Nissan Sunny and Primera cars. Car now back on the road and running well. Hope this helps with your own problem. NB: Check out www.bma-reman.com which is where I found info and got the part.

Theres no such thing as a 1.6 P11 in the UK ;)

Check the MAF (Mas Air Flow) device on the tube from the air filter to the throttle housing .......

The G20 forums should have a instruction detail on how thats done you may get away with just cleaning it :)

J.M is not correct in there statement.
we do infact have a 1.6 p11 in the uk.
the p11 came in 1.6/.20 and diesel.
the p11-144 was not the 1.6 only 1.8/2.0 and diesel.

they are correct in saying that the mas airflow is the most likely cause of your fault.

Thanks for all your replys.

Every thing is running smoothly now.

I had to put it into a garage and after exhaustive tests faults were found on a leaking gasket relating to the air system fitted directly under the air intake filter housing. This may be the mass air flow but it is slightly more complicated that the MAF fitted to Audi, Golf etc. In the same area it was all gunged up, this was cleaned up and a 'O' ring had also to fitted.

I apoligise for not being more specific but that all I know.
