Pros and cons of replacing Dex-Cool?

Hi Guys!

After I read all the horror stories related to the Dex-Cool coolant, i'm thinking about flushing the Dex-Cool entirely, and use the regular green stuff instead. How many of you did this? :dunno:

Any chance of improving the intake/head gasket life doing this? :feedback:

I had considered it myself but after reading (maybe too much) it occured to me that there really isn't any proof that Dex-cool is causing the problems just a lot of theories.

I had considered converting my other vehicle (non-Dex-cool) to Dex-cool but since the topic of gasket degredation is bouncing around I decided that a Ford (and its gaskets) definately was not designed with Dex-cool in mind.

If you do decide to change it is recommended that you thouroughly flush the system. There are rumours that mixing any amount of "standard" and dex-cool causes gumming.... The bottle of Dex-cool simply states that it will revert to 2-year coolant if mixed.

:iagree: From all the research I did, I have found that you can mix the green antifreeze and DexCool without much problem. The gumming (actually referred to as "gelling") occurs when air gets into the cooling system, and contaminates the coolant. It is also recommended to replace your radiator cap when you flush your cooling system, as it has been found that some can become defective and introduce air into your cooling system.
