I have a '99 grand am gt and once in awhile usually right after i start the car or within 5 minutes after i start it the car hesitates when i give it gas, it acts as if its out of gas but its not. Any ideas?

A couple things could be causing this, Brots.

Your TPS (throttle position sensor) could be bad
Your fuel pump could be dying
Your fuel pressure regulator could be going
Your wire(s), plug(s), or coil(s) could need changing
Your fuel filter could need changing
Your injector(s) could be clogged / dirty.

There's really quite a lot of possiblities. Do you have any stored engine codes / SES lights during the occurance?

hmmm, i just had a new head gasket put on, new spark plug wires and a new fuel filter, do you think they messed something up when they did that?

I have the same problem bro, and i have a 96 grand am 3.1 L and i have changed plugs, wires, ECM and coils, TPS, fuel pump and fuel filter and i still have the same damn problem. So i just took off the intake manifold this weekend to go get my fuel injectors professonally cleaned and rebuilt and flow tested, when there done and it's all back together i will reply back and let you know if it fixes my problem, cause it sounds just like your problem and it has only been getting worse over the last 5 months now where it has like no power and hesitates like hell. Ill keep you posted though.

ohh yeah i will be putting on a new fuel pressure regulator too when i put the injectors back in so if it does fix it it could be the rugulator or the injectors. But i will let you know the outcome later this week

Old School here, run a good concentrated injector cleaner at least every 3 tankfuls, GM newer injectors love to gunk up with average gas. It's just good maintenance.

I would bet on it that its the crank position sensor.
