Hi , The cruise in my 86 250 Ram Conversion Van Isn't working right.
I get my speed up to 65 and push the button and remove my foot off the gas and it falls to 55 before kicking in and maintains 55,It is a factory set-up,I have adjusted the cable on the carb. as tight as I can without raising the idle and checked the vaccum hose.
What else could I look for ?
Any Help Out There !!!
Thanks

Does the cruise work properly at all other speeds below 55? If so, there may be a factory/computer setting that won't allow over 55mph on the cruise.

I never really tried the cruise below 55,Thats more or less in town driving. The van is mostly used on Road Trips. I really don't believe this is the case because I can run my speed up to 75 and push the button and it falls that 10 miles an hour and maintains 65.
This past weekend I replaced the AC compressor and took it for a test drive and noticed the speedo bouncing at low speed so I looked at the cables and found a sensor looking thing with two wires coming out screwed in the cable from the trans. to the transducer (as called on
GM vehicles) so I removed all 3 cables and lube them and shot some WD40 it this sensor and drove it to work today,Tried the cruise and it only dropped like 7 or 8 mph before kicking in. Could this be the problem ?

That might be part of it; but you're in a 20 year old vehicle - so if the cruise consistently drops 10mph when you set it, at least it's the same every time and I'd think about living with that. You have an "accel" button to accelerate, yes? Should be ok.

I have an '04 Dodge Truck, and frequently it will drop 3-4mph from where I set it before the cruise picks up. It's a bit of a pain to accelerate back to where you want it.

I realize its 20 years old but its always been garaged and looks better than some 3 or 4 year olds I've seen,And like you say its a pain playing with the accel button to gain speed back up.Its been doing this for 6yrs. now and I just havn't worried about it because I havn't been on that many trips. But now I may be going on 2 a month and thought I'd try to get it working right. Just don't trust anybody else with my vehicles since I was a 12yr. Auto service Tech. jus never worked on that many cruise controls. Guess I'll check out some after market set-ups !
Thanks Alot For Your Time And Responce !
I've Posted this on 2 other forums and your the only one to respond,
Thanks again !

Hey, no sweat. I'm no good at cruise control either, but if it consistently holds 10mph under where you set it, it's all good......

Good luck w/the repair, I'd be interested to hear the outcome.
