Went to start my 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport and realized none of my gauges where working. The check engine light was on and so is the airbag light, also the mileage is not showing. The car runs and drives fine, could this be a short in the wiring or a faulty sensor.

I would first check all your fuses, sounds like it might be that

if you've got an autozone near you, take it there and they'll read the code for you free. since the check engine light is on the 'puter has stored a code (or codes). This will point you in the right direction. Could be a fuse as Scuba pointed out. there is a fuse for the air bag.
