Um, does this work with manual or automatic transmissions? I assume the transfer case is the same, but I see this one is fitted to an automatic so I thought I better check. Also, I wonder how strong it actually is? Thanks!

The same transfer case is used for manual and automatic.

I can't say it's terribly strong, but it does provide a smooth surface as opposed to a hard lip for sliding over things gently, and protects from anything kicking up from below. It will not provide any load-bearing ability should you set it down on a rock or stump, the skid bolts directly to the transfer case and only to the transfer case.

Thanks Brent! That's what I figured, but it never hurts to make sure everything is all clear! :)

FYI, nissanautoparts.com took over 5 weeks to mail me mine and didn't have the mounting hardware at all.

I think the XOC thread listed another source to get them from and those who got them there got the plates faster and were able to get them with the bolts (one less trip to Lowes).

Try ordering from nissanparts.cc

The part is currently on national backorder. Orders that include a VIN# are upgraded to "customer care". Mine took about 3 weeks from the time I ordered until I got it on my doorstep. nissanparts.cc is a little slow, but very reliable and they'll answer an questions via e-mail pretty promtly.

I just got my Pathy skidpalte today with hardware! I took four weeks from the day of the order! Price was $19.94 with shipping from Automax Nissan in Oklahoma City, OK. Another Mod to bolt on this weekend! :)

Pick up a 1/2" diameter stiff brush to clean out those threads, they'll be full of crud! Found something that resembles a giant 2' pipe cleaner at Ace Hardware in the housewares section that was perfect!

I already dug out some old bronze bore brushes for my .45 to clean with! Should work perfectly! :D

Gee guys,
That may be a great price but is it as strong as the original? I took the skid plate off my 1991 Pathfinder. It bolts to the X perfectly and is very strong. Here is a pic. Any junk yard should be able to get you one if it turns out to be stronger.

Looks the same, but shot from a different angle.

I think they are but don't know if the metal is the same thickness. If it is that is a great price! I will get one to put back on the Pathy. I will measure mine tonight and see how thick it is. Can someone else do the same to the new one?

I'll measure mine tomorrow morning when I take it off! I am getting my Skid Row Differential plate! :)
