Grinding Gears?????

OK guys, Heres one that is driving me nuts! Most of the time when shifting gears I have normal operation, however at times the gears will grind a bit when first shifting from one to another. It usually will happen after the car is at operating temp and I'm making a quicker shift, and yes I am depressing the clutch all the way. It will not act up if I use one finger to guide the stick to the gear, Ie: a slower shift. It will do it all the time if I do a more forcefull shift. At first I thought it may be the clutch but I am not getting any slippage, I also considered the syncryos but since it does no do it all the time I'm not sure. Does any one have any thoughts?

Well, the first thing that would come to my mind and I don't know if you have done it or not...but have you checked the tranny fluid? if you have it seems like to me that you very well may have a problem with the shift fork or then again it may very well be the throw-out bearing....ill look into it and get back at ya...later

Fab,

I have checked the trans fluid and it's good. Still clean and no smell. The thing that gets me is that it doesn't do it all of the time.

My bad, I assumed that most of you know what I have because of the amount of post I've done with a fall back to my own ride.

hey Dan just thought of something you might check..the tranny control solenoid and I would also check the tranny shift linkage...later

K, just wondering here, a trans. control solenoid on a standard? Is that some kind of safety rev-limiter? Only thing I aware of is a back-up light switch.
Dan, have ya tried to adjust the clutch cable yet, since the better half had it?

With NO ill meaning at Hayne's, LOL, [inside joke 'tween Dan and I, guys], the Chilton's states depress the clutch pedal all the way down, release it, then grab it and pull up with some reasonable force. Stuff about pawls, etc. etc. Required every 5K miles.

Knife...No cable...Hydrualic, and the level is up. I don't know about a solenoid on a manual. I think I'm going to try a fluid and filter change, Hell, I don't even know if there is a filter on this tranny. It is the first manual that I have come across that has a dip stick and takes synthetic fluid at $12.00 a quart [0uch!]. I do not think it is the syncro's because it doesn't do it all of the time, it does do it more when the car has been driven a while. If I use a little force to shift it will grind but if I ease it to the next gear it is less likely to happen but it will grinnd on occasion.

I wish it did have a cable then I could give it an adjustment. I'll let you know if I find a solenoid.
