Sebring overheating

My 99 sebring convertible overheated today when I started the car and just drove across the mall parking lot. I realized the air conditioner was hot air and looked down. I ran the heater to pull the air off then pulled over to a gas station and let it sit.
After it cooled down I started it without the air on and it ran fine which was good since no mechanic in town can see me till next week. I am car knowledge idiot, so help me out.
Suggestions please...

After it cooled down I started it without the air on and it ran fine which was good since no mechanic in town can see me till next week. I am car knowledge idiot, so help me out.

My car had a similar problem last year. The radiator cap needed to be replaced.

Also a sticking thermostat can cause this problem, especially if its intermittent like that. Most likely with a bad radiator cap, it would happen all of the time, once the system built up pressure.
My recommendation?? Replace the Thermostat and cap. Both very easy and cheap to do and are both good preventable mainteance, even if they arent bad. The car is, afterall, 6 years old.

Suggestions please...My car is a 98 and has the same problem. If the air conditioning is not blowing cold air the fuse 40 amp is probably blown. This fuse is under the front hood. If the fuse is blown your fan will not work and you will not have cold air and your car will overheat. This is the problem I am having. I have one more problem that you may or may not have. When i replace my fuse and turn the car on it starts burning from the fan motor inside. Smells like wires burning up inside. Make sure your not having this problem. I will be talking to a chrysler mechanic tomorrow. I will let you know what the mechanic said. Have a good evening Aaron
