Ok, obviously, the 2g is FASTER than the 3g..Vtec95Civic 05-18-2005, 07:47 PM Which is more reliable. I'm accumulating funds for a new vehicle in the future, and while I LOVE the GSX/TSI AWD, I'm beginning to think that a 7 or 8 year old car will not be too reliable. Especially with the Eclipse's reputation with things breaking and what not. FourG63 97GST 05-18-2005, 08:04 PM a 3G should be more reliable, its a newer car. but I never had a 3G, I've had a reliable 2G though. she takes a beating like a champ 140K here i come  pr0 05-18-2005, 08:46 PM a 3G should be more reliable, its a newer car. but I never had a 3G, I've had a reliable 2G though. she takes a beating like a champ 140K here i come  Good to hear, my car took a shit on me so many times (90k) in the past but now after I fixed everything myself, all seems to be well!! As long as its all maintained well, it should be reliable. :D Gsx_hooptie 05-18-2005, 09:10 PM You've been on this site often contemplating whether or not to buy. Trust your instincts. You seem interested, but almost looking for an excuse to not buy. The gsx isn't too hard to find, isn't too expensive, and doesn't break down too often, assuming the previous owners took good care of the car. Vtec95Civic 05-18-2005, 10:06 PM Well I've been here alot mainly because I don't have the money yet. I won't probably until NEXT summer. I've been surfing here, the trans am board, the RX-7 board, etc. A newer car would be nice and the only newer car that I want, that I can afford, is the 3g. The only thing holding me on the 2g are of course, the turbo and AWD. Basically, my biggest problems with the GSX is: High mileage Crankwalk (I know, it's not THAT common, but more so than other cars) Reliability Finding one Finding one that hasn't been modded or beat to hell viet_boiiiii 05-18-2005, 10:19 PM The longer u wait, the harder it is to find a good one with low miles AND not modded. When u decide to buy one and the owner said its stock well, most of them NEVER said that they modded before and just Turned everything back to stock thus leaving it as "stock form". What ever u buy is up to u because a 3g would be more reliable because its just new and the 2g will be sexy, quick, slick, and did i mention sexy? LOL yeah its just up to you on the car u want. 1stGenRocks 05-18-2005, 11:09 PM search ebay i saw a 99 gsx at a dealership with 17miles on it for sale not long ago. i think they were asking like 28k clipsekid99 05-18-2005, 11:18 PM http://www.exotic-motors.com/ShowCarDetail.aspx?file_name=b7_12_sb.jpg&mode=ShowDetail&CarId=81 This is the same dealer I got my car from. He is a really nice guy. I would definately buy from him again. He always get in rare cars, so even if you don't buy this gsx, check back often. kjewer1 05-19-2005, 07:23 AM Well I've been here alot mainly because I don't have the money yet. Its for sale, seen here http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=399567 Probably not what you are looking for. But dont see any reason to get a 3g. Nothing about them appeals to me... nova1313 05-19-2005, 03:13 PM I was in your same space for about two years. I was looking to buy an eclipse didn't quite have the money and kept coming up with excuses like they brake alot, have lots of problems and can't hardly keep them running. But I took the dive bought the car I wanted off ebay actually and I'm just paying the loan off. The longer I waited the harder it was to find one with low miles. I saw on the first year i looked for 11k with 30k miles on it. It was expensive then. I ended up with a 99 spyder gs, 137k miles for 5.5k. It was a good deal off ebay. I don't suggest ebay unless you are willing to expect a few problems. I had to replace my cat, brakes, and needed new rear tires and wipers. I did all the work but the cat myself. Definately worth the money and time to me. I love the car to death. I've been driving it almost 6k miles since i bought it two months ago. It's a really good and reliable car. Just keep looking around and if you really like the 2g go for it. It's worth the money and the time. The longer you wait the longer you deprive yourself from owning and driving something you really love to drive. Everytime I drive my car I smile cause it's fun, I like it and it's what I had wanted for so long. It's a good feeling. Take advantage of the situation and remember the longer you wait the higher the opportunity cost is! Urban_Squrill 05-19-2005, 03:36 PM All day I think about my gen 2 being fucked to hell, not being able to drive it. Telling my self I will never buy one again. Then I get home and see the car and remember how fun that car is. LandoAWD 05-19-2005, 04:18 PM The next person bitching about reliability gets a long winded, abusive rant about my 119k car that NOT ONCE left me stranded anywhere. Did I mention I put 100k on it personally and drove it quite aggressively? :D Nstyle29 05-19-2005, 04:43 PM I have a GS-T right now and am loving it, has 122000 miles on it and its been owned by my brother and now me...and it has had its hard days of racing w/ my bro. I am looking to try and find a GSX and sell the GS-T, i am gonna be in a snowy area (Colorado) so the AWD i will much need, just finding one that hasn't been modded is the toughest i think...cause i wanna do it all myslef. 96spyderman 05-19-2005, 05:20 PM I had my spyder from about 90,000 miles to 140,000 and never did it leave me stranded or left me with a big hole in my wallet..... well the hole was there but it wasn't from it breaking down... he he he drewh4386 05-19-2005, 07:22 PM Eclipses are more reliable than people think. It just people hear bad things and people run with it. Out my old 96 newer 98 and my brothers old laser, we've never had any problems that normal car wouldn't go thru. macder 05-20-2005, 05:32 PM DSM's mainly attract younger buyers due to their styling and performance. Now I think everybody would know how a young adult would drive a fast car. It doesn't matter what make or model a car is, but if it's been beaten and not maintaned, then hell, even a benz would be unreliable. Reliability really comes down to one's driving habits vs maintenance. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
