98 Conv JXI Oil Pressure Switch Leaking

have a 98 Sebring Conv. JXI 2.5 V6.
Bought it used in 2003 with 58k miles on it, just hit 70100 miles last week.

Usually i do my own work, but the first oil change i was in a bit of a rush, so i took it to one of those quicklube/jiffylube places to do it.

the next time i went to do a change on it, i noticed they had used a smaller than required oil filter. Naturally of course i put the size that was called for back on the vehicle, but ive noticed noticed that the oil pressure switch (located just above the oil filter) is leaking oil now.

Can anyone tell me :
1) Could this be a direct relation to the smaller oil filter. (i.e. smaller filter = more pressure = oil blowing out the pressure switch. *oddly enought the sensor light has never come on*)

2) is replacing the switch an easy (do it yourself in 1-2 hrs) kind of fix. (i noticed its in a precarious location that might be difficult for me to get a wrench/socket into)

any information would be apriciated, thanks.

I don’t think the smaller filter would have raised your pressure. When the oil can’t flow through the filter ( ie: it’s filthy) the bypass valve opens up allowing it to circulate freely. If anything your oil was probably not filtered as good as it could have been. If they overfilled the pan with oil that may caused excessive pressure.

As for changing the oil pressure switch…. I have no idea for this vehicle. I’ve changed them out before just not on a Sebring.
