I have 2 AWD DSM's.
I like the 2G body more so I'd rather make it AWD.
I have 1 JDM motor (No Turbo, Exhaust Maniford)
I have 1 USDM motor (No Valve cover, or Turbo (DOES HAVE MANIFOLD)
USDM motor is 1G, JDM... not sure yet.
I have 1 stock 1G intercooler.
I have 1 1G AWD Tranny
I have 2 1G AWD Driveshafts
I have 1 1G transfercase (I hope)
I have 2 1G Rear ends

Basicaly what I need to know is if the 1G Driveshaft, Transfercase, and Rear end will work with the 2G body?

I don't have the money to burn to just go out and buy a 2G GSX, I have all these parts and a 2G GS body, I'll assume the Driveshaft on the 1G is a different length and won't work, but will the transfercase, and rear end still work?

The rear ends are not interchangeable as far as I know.

91-96 transfer cases are interchangeable. 90s have a different spline count, 97-99 is a different gear ratio. Same goes or 97-99 tranny, different ratio.

Axles are not interchangeable between 1g and 2g as far as I know (never tried though).

Can not run a 1g tranny in a 2g car, note that the 2g puts the rolls stoppers on the tranny, while the 1g has them on the block. No workie.

Driveshaft almost certainly has different mounting points on the two cars. Again, never tried that.

The 1g motor will work, see all the usual 6 bolt in a 2g stuff.

Unfortunately, none of this will matter when you realize how much work is required to do the FWD to AWD conversion on a non spyder. Good luck ;)

Why don't you just save yourself lots of headache and try to sell what you've got there (maybe keep the 1g motor if 6-bolt) and try to find a good 2g AWD. Now i know that they are not that easy to find, but not imposible. Ocassionaly a good 2g awd is listed so be patient. Or if you want the satisfation and credibility of the swap then go for it.

I'm going to stick with the 1G, but I noticed my JDM motor apears to have 7 bolts... :banghead:

Will it still bolt up to the 1G tranny? If not, will the head fit on a 6 bolt block?

The bolt patterns are the same, but the 1g tranny/block has one less, right under the water pipe if I remember correctly. If this is a 1g style 7 bolt, it will match right up. If its a 2g style 7 bolt, there will be one unused bolt hole on the motor. But in this case, youre screwed anyway since the 2g style blocks dont have the motor point points tapped in most cases.

A 6 bolt head fits right on a 7 bolt block physically, but of course there are some differences in the cooling plumbing. Putting a 7 bolt head on a 6 bolt block requires drilling the holes out a little larger. 6 bolt studs/bolts are 12mm, 7 bolt blocks use 11mm. If you are getting the head rebuilt, it would be wise to ask the machinist to do this for you before resurfacing. Its not a big deal, people do this all the time to run a 6 bolt block, but keep the 7 bolt head (a lot less work overall).

We have the motor apart... Wow that Cyclone intake looks pretty. I don't know much about the DSM's, definitly didn't know about this, but there is this actuator (looks like a waste gate almost) and it must open with vacume pressure but when it does it opens these 4 butterflys that open 4 more intake pipes (smaller than the stock intake). The amount they open is adjustable via a scew. This engines looking pretty good for staying out in the weather for over 2 years.
