Cat questionMarbles1984 05-16-2005, 08:04 PM I have a 92 ranger 3.0 V-6 with 2 cats running in a straight line. My question is, would I lose much low end torque by chopping off one of the cats and running a straight pipe? Also what would the sound difference be? I have a Glasspack on their now running out into dual exhaust. Marbles1984 05-17-2005, 09:42 PM Well guys today I chopped off one of my cats and its sounds a bit louder. I also noticed a slight gain in hp but now I have another question. I went to AutoZone and got me an oil cap breather filter and after I installed it I noticed that my engine idles at about 1200 RPM but before I installed it, it was idleing at around 700. Is this increase in RPM normal? Any help would be great. No, that increase it not normal, well it depends, it's normal if you have a vacuum leak :) . You'll ruin your u-joints or transmission shifting into drive that high of idle with an automatic. Pete Marbles1984 05-18-2005, 02:29 PM Well I drove it some today and the RPM was back down to around 700 like it used to be. This is a weird ass truck. lol 2000mudder 05-18-2005, 02:44 PM many things affect idle. was it colder that one day? you could have a bad sensor such as coolant temp or throttle sensor. these control idle. your computor could have needed to adjust to the lack of oil vapors goind through the motor when you put on the breather. the vapors aren't getting sucked through the PCV valve into motor as much wich will cause a more complete burn in combustion chamber causing it to actually run better wich the computor has to adjust after about 10 miles of driving. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
