MY AIR CONDITIONING SUCKS!!!

Ok, so I recently purchased a 2001 Aztek from a used car dealer and he charged up the A/C, even told me a little story about how it took two cans so he had to wait on the2nd can and order everything and blah blah blah. Well, when I turn on my A/C, the air does not change form the regular fan. A guy at Autozone said it might be the clutch for the A/C.

Does this sound right???

How much would a clutch for A/C cost to replace?

Is it the dealer's resposibility to help me out here, or am I just stuck with the car as is???

Any help greatly appreciated!!!

Your air conditioning is a sealed system only way for your car to need 2 cans of R134A is if you have a leak. A bad clutch was not cause a leak.

Take a peak underneath the passenger front of your condensor which is bolted to the front of the rad.. About 2 inches from the bottom you will see a welded on bracket if you see oil or a green stain your condensor is leaking,

If this is your source of a leak you are looking at about 500 dollars to fix it.

I believe that the used car dealer should honor and pay for the repair. The car had a leak and he added gas to the system instead of performing a leak check and fixing the leak. You bought the car with a problem and they need to fix the problem

I know many members on the Aztek Fan Club that went through what you are. It seems to be a common occurance in the Aztek line but more so in the 2001. I agree the dealership that sold you the car should make it right.

Most likely a bad condensor. Fight that dealer! This was another GM design flaw, just like:
*manifold gaskets
*drum brakes
*insert yours here...

Yes there has been a few problems. The condenser was installed in a bad position opening it up to road damage. I know most dealerships will provide the parts if you pay the labor. As for just buying the vehicle I still think the dealer knew there was a problem and hid it. Make him fix it!! If it was a GM dealer or Pontiac call Pontiac and complain.

Pontiac Aztecs do have problems with the a/c condensors. The place where my father gets new radatiors and a/c condensors sell the a/c condensors like hotcakes.Basically they do not keep the a/c condensors for the Pontiac Aztecs in their warehouse very quick, they sell very fast and they are not cheap(little bit over $200.00).

I also bought my 2001 Aztek used. Bought it in 2/04 - only to discover in the summer - the entire air conditioning unit needed to be replaced to the tune of $800.00. I hope it is not a defect in the year.

rockgirl, there was some changes made in later years that may improve things. Not sure how yours got changed, but the official fix was new mounting bracket for condensor and also change made to condensor. Hopefully you have the updated parts.

Chameleon-kat. The mechanic I took it too did indeed replace the condensor - it worked great after that! Question for you - I want to have a trailer hitch put on the truck for hauling a pop up camper - do you have any recommendations/suggestions?

I can't really help to much with that, as I don't tow anything. Just a couple general things: Does yours have the tow package (easy way to tell is if there is compressor in compartment on drivers side in rear)? That would make things easier perhaps on the vehicle. Also the max you should tow is 3500lbs which would include camper + stuff inside. Feel free to send me a e-mail if you like, and I can try to get more info on towing for you.
