As you all should know. Lean Burn sucks.

I have a 1978 Chrysler Cordoba 360 2 barrel. I would like to know if anyone knows how to get rid of this lean burn stuff.
Right now I know that I need a new distributor and have to do something to the Computer but Im not sure what. Could anyone please tell me how to do it... or please pleeeease atleast tell me what I need to change to bypass this lean burn.

I also have another question. I got a front piece for my car and am looking to spray paint it the same color(of course). The Cordoba is a Maroon color but I know Chrysler most likely has a different name for it. Does anybody know what the color is? Or a good site where I can get any of this information.

Please help

Thanks

Lets you find the color and what it takes for a place to mix it for you.
In addition to the new distributer, you will need a new carb as well. Just any regular holley or thermoquad will do.

Well, that solves the Color problem... thanks man

As for lean burn you need to purchase a mopar electronic conversion kit (comes with detailed instructions) and a non electronic/feedback carb and if you go 4bbl go with a edelbrock performer rpm and 500 cfm carb.

You don't need to replace the carburetor. I left the Holley 2245 on the car for over a year after I ditched Lean Burn in favor of Electronic. I used a junkyard vacuum-advance distributor, a junk yard Electronic ignition controller, and a new harness from the dealer. I think the harness was something like $20. We used quick connects to hook up the appropriate wires to make sure that it worked, and I still have yet to actually fix the wiring harness permanently, but it does function fine.

The only thing that makes this carburetor special compared to 2245s and 2210s that came before it is that it has sensors that give the computer feedback about your throttle position and air pressure, so that the computer can change the spark a little. The theory behind this wasn't bad, as the Thermoquad on the '79 Chrysler 300 with Lean Burn still got that car up pretty nicely, but once the engine gets out of tolerance and once the computer gets thoroughly cooked it just fails to properly control spark.

I did convert to 4bbl, but that was because my emissions got terrible with the 2245 and I didn't see any reason to replace a 2bbl carburetor with another when converting wouldn't cost me terribly much more. What I didn't think about was that the throttle pressure linkage needs to be changed when you do this, and the brackets for the throttle and cruise control are different, so unless you have everything at once it's a pain.

If you convert to 4bbl, keep in mind that you have a first generation lockup 904 transmission, which are prone to lockup failure in the worst possible way; they fail to release lockup. I admit that I kind of went all out with dual exhaust with headers and an X-pipe, and went from a 2.43:1 8.25" open rear end to a 3.21:1 9.25" Sure Grip, but even before this I was getting shuddering and problems indicating that the lockup clutch inside of the torque converter was sticking. When it sticks it burns, which puts pieces of it into the transmission fluid, which are cycled around through the transmission where they lodge in the valve body and the lockup control valving, which cause the thing to fail to disengage. I basically need a new transmission and until I get one the car is sitting in the back yard.

Thanks man

I think the 360 has 180hp with lean burn. Does anyone know how much horse it has without it?
Im getting the package this week to take it off... I would be interested to know.

And does lean burn have anything to do with gas? will I get less mpg? I dont think I will but some people seem to think its for lowering the mpg also.

Well it appers someone else is trying to do what I did to my 1980 St Regis. I was successful in removing the lean burn , but it did require some additional wiring, a dual ballast resister and an electronic ignition kit from Chryc,o which had the ignition module and a vacume advance distributor. It has been over 20 years since I did it, but it is deffinitly doable.
