I am 35 years old and I love the 2005 Xterra ....except for two things...
First of all, I've been waiting for a 4x4 SUV like this for a long time.
It's got everything I need...just like the add sais,
BUT WHAT REALLY PISSES ME OFF IS THAT IT DON'T HAVE NO SUNROOF!
Why can't Nissan make this an option instead of the Cargo Basket...
that most people don't ever use!!!!
This is a big factor in my car buying decision...
Now I have to wait untill the 2006 model to see what they change if any..
Also, another thing that bothers me is no cassette on the stereo
This is also very important for me ...since I grew up in the 80's and have hundreds of cassettes...also my mp3 player works with a cassette adapter...and I have 20 gigs of music in it..
I hope that Nissan people read this because they would attract a lot more of the 18-35 year old market..

Here is my advice to NIssan for future models hopefully for 2006:
1. Add Moonroof Option instead of Cargo basket or both if possible
2. Add dual stereo option (CD & Cassette)

That's it!...I am not buying this vehicle because of this....
so now I'm looking at the Toyota Highlander 4x4 Hybrid instead.

Seriously though, if a lack of these options is sending you towards a Highlander hybrid instead, the X probably isn't for you in the first place.

It really doesn't make much sense for Nissan to put a tape deck in anymore. Buy some software and burn your tapes to CD. Welcome to 2005. :D

I love my 05 X. I actually have been using the cargo basket often. I don't need a sunroof or a tape deck. Although, an AUX input for my iPod would be nice. But, that's probably available aftermarket too. My only problem with it is the horn. It sounds like a flute! weak.

wow..that is some interesting criteria for a new car. Maybe you should buy an older model Xterra, from back when they were still making tape decks. Or buy a FM Transmitter you can plug into your mp3 player and a walkman (for the tapes).

i do enjoy the sunroof in my xterra, and have taken off the bucket so i can use it. (both are possible). i will probably put the basket back on come winter.

Casette player? :screwy: All my casettes either melted or came unraveled about 20 years ago. I don't think I've ever heard of anyone with an MP3 player who also still listens to tapes?

Does Toyota really offer a tape player? Almost nobody even makes casette head units anymore and they are near impossible to find. If you want the Highlander, why not just get the Camry?

You don't need a tape adapter for the MP3. There are adapters that hook right into the wiring or you can use an RF adapter.

I like having a sunroof too, but it wouldn't be the end of the world to not have one. You can always have it done...plenty of places can put them in, even powered ones.

Yeah I definately have to agree with XBoy[Insert Random Numbers Here]. The newly modified X DEFINATELY is lacking in alot of areas.

In addition to not being able to get the Cassette and Sunroof as factory options, there are also a bunch of things that would be nice to get directly from the dealer.

Ive included a short list of things id like to see the dealer offer:

1.) A Mini-Bar.

2.) Rocket-Boosters.

3.) A Full bath(including color co-ordinated shower curtains that match your X's exterior)

4.) AN 8-TRACK!!! OMG U CANT GET AN 8-TRACK PLAYER FROM THE DEALER!!

They should definately offer the 8-track/cassette/CD/DVD/Mini-disc/toaster/microwave/deep-fryer combo deck with the X.

Maybe they could even offer a knife sharp enough to cut through the THICK and HEAVY sarcasm.....but i doubt it.

But to me this is a reflection of how many people out there that really don't look at what makes any vehicle a good or bad vehicle in the first place.
Some guys complaint about things that have no direct impact on how good a vehicle like the Xterra is. I wonder way he/someone didn't mention things like more cup holders?

Then they don't look at how good is the vehicle during an accident, how well it performs off road, how reliable is the power train, or how easy is to work on the engine or to modify the suspension. These days cassette players are a thing of the past, specially since you could us an MP3 player like the iPod or even install a Mac Mini in the Dash with a 10" touch screen and then you'll have access to all your music and DVD's in the hard disk, that's something I will be installing soon in my Xterra.

On the issue about the sunroof, honestly I really think that is pretty much useless, probably weakens the roof rigidity and I really wouldn't want to have that much glass over my head. In a rollover it could break, and glass splinters are not really good for your eyesight!. Then when you carry supplies or equipment on the roof rack, you are no going to be able to use the sunroof.

Whew! Geeez people, everyone has their own needs. Let them do their thing and you do yours, you are going to anyways and so are they. If ya can help them out.

BUT I agree, I needed a better stereo. i bought a JVC 770/777 It's one unit same size as factory but it plays CD (mp3 format too) Cassettes, and has a forward facing aux input that you can plug an Ipod/ Mini disc, Mp3 player or a DVD player like I do, ANYTHING that goes Stereo mini 8! I have one in my cadillac and I love it! Now I have 2!
The sun roof is an easy fix. You can get aftermarket that has better functions, Plus I seen somewhere on this forum that they make a clear panel that replaces the wind deflector and allows you to actually see out your sunroof when you do get it in! I am one that hates the leak factor, don't use one at all and won't have one. (Also air noise concerns me although with the roof rack i doubt there is any) But you go for it! At least we have the MPG and all the HP! No car is ever perfect for every person. Ya just buy whats close
and Pimp that ride from there!

Some people point out you can use an FM modulator and play what ya want, that does work.
