Anti Theft Stero System Code

98gp
05-09-2005, 10:11 PM
I have a 1998 Grand Prix that I purchased from a private party about a year ago and no longer can contact him. Anyway, my battery died and when I charged it my stereo was locked! After reading owner's manual, I knew I needed a code. Well, guess you can figure out my question.... How can I get my stereo to work again without having to take it to the dealer and be charged up the __________? And even then I am not sure if they can help. Anyone have any suggestions on how I can get the code or bypass it?

I'm not sure there is a way to bypass it without going to a dealer. That's why my dad never would let me set a theftlock code on any of my cars. He said it was a major pain in the rear to get it reset if you forgot or lost the code.

Here you go;

** Theftlock Bypass

1. Press and hold presets 2 & 3 for about 10 seconds until the first 3 digits of the display code are displayed.

2. Write the numbers down.

3. Press the AM/FM button, write down the next 3 numbers.

4. Call 1-800-537-5140, when asked, enter 620529, press the # button and enter the 6 digit code from the radio, you will get an unlock code, write it down.

5. Go back to the car, press the HR button and set the first 2 numbers, then press minute button and set the next two last numbers, press AM/FM button, SEC should be displayed, turn on radio.

To remove customers code, repeat step 5. you should see --- on radio face, the code is now out of the radio.

EDIT: Updated with new dealer code. FWIW, the old code was 202107

If that code doesn't work. Take it to dealer. Diff. radio. They will set it for free, if it's your radio.

What are you smoking dealers will not unlock the radio for free. Dealers will not fix a problem without charging you something.

BTW Kustom your advice is called theft of services. Does the dealership know you are using thier codes and posting them on the internet?

Do you know those codes have been passed around EVERY GP site for forever. Also, the two dealers down the street from me will give them to you over the phone.

There posted above. I listed the same way I did mine. It's the way a friend of mine gave them to me. I used and listed them step by step.
Good luck.

hey there FLATRATER, i've read 2 different posts, both of them had you giving your negative, unforum-friendly opinion. why are you on here anyway, seems to me you whine just as much as the ones you complained about in the last post i read?
i very much appreciate all the information i get on this website. unlike you, apparently, i don't have the money to go to the dealership every time something goes wrong. especially since i'm a girl and don't know that much about cars. and mine is a lemon which i've been trying to get fixed but after 3 mechanics who've fixed things, i have many many more problems than i can possibly afford. so many that i can't take that much time off work to pick it up and drop it off because who would pay the bill? why don't you try to be a little more positive? that's why the rest of us are here....

:evillol: Exactly! and I hate to be that way but if you went back and read my previous threads from last fall, it would be easy to understand why I am somewhat anti-dealership. sometimes it's just nice to be nice to others. so :thefinger here's to those who are just out for my money!
I've got about :2cents: left to spend on this car! And to everyone else, have a great day! :jump3:

You tell him. We are all out here to help each other. We are losing people from this site every day, because of people who don't know how to say, "how can we help you"?
If money is the thing in his life, then he should take some and buy a new as--ole. That way you you can reply to two fourms at once.
Anytime you need help on your car, let us know. We will do are best. Nice to have you around.

Flaming me will only get you banned, so try it again! If you have a problem with me try sending me a PM.

You read 2 posts yet you feel like an expert on who I am. Try searching my past posts.

The info posted about unlocking a radio is illegal and if I wanted I could of removed this topic the day the illegal info was posted.

Do me a favor and shut up!

Since you don't list your job I can asusme you don't work.

But if I can to your work place and you were off the clock and not getting paid would you still help me out the same way or just brush me off. You condem me for the same things you do. If you are at work and not getting paid you won't get off your ass to help anyone out.

Would you do something illegal at your job to help me out?

Hello Everyone Concerned,

Just my 2 cents :2cents:but I believe everyone should cool it....please. Getting P.O.'d and escalating matters will not help matters, either. We should all start acting like responsible adults, and that includes me so let this rest once and for all. This thread is getting out of hand.

"Can't we all just get along."

You know something. I belong to more GP forums then then they will let you read. The last time this happen, this fourm lost some moderators. GTPDAD has done a great job on this part of this fourm. And will still be doing it tomorrow.
I don't know who you are. But we have some mechanics on the GP fourm that help people every day. They do it for the love of cars, not to feel big. I have almost the same amount of post that you do. I'm out here every day and most of the nights. Oh, and I have done it in less time.
We joke, we talk, we help. You have come on this site twice in the last month to yell. All I can say, don't come on here telling people to shut up. Don't try to make yourself feel like a God. I think you should take the night, think about what your saying. Then come back and tell some people your sorry for telling them to shut up.
"AF Staff are here to help you so if you have a problem e-mail it". You have the power to email anyone, even me, if you have trouble with anything they have to say. Banning is something a little hard to push at people all the time. That's why we have lost so many people in the past. I think we are all too big to yell at.
I'll wait your PM or email.
Thanks for everyones time and help.

While searching for a service manual for a 1998 Grand Prix I stumbled across some guy on Ebay providing a service of GM Theftlock codes.

Any comments on this?

You know if I really wanted to I could just call GM and report this issue and have that account closed. But I haven't and don't intend to do so.

And Kustom you're going to have a long wait.
