I just purchased this 96 JGC 4X4. The front right axle is totaly wipped out I have removed the shaft now I need to fix it. What recommedation do the guru's on this page request. I also noticed that CV boot on left side is twisted.

Should I replace both CV Half shaft and inner seals and fluid?

Of maybe switch to Ujoint style?

I am not completly understanding how the unit goes together because Is all wipped out it looks like the outer bearing is gone.

Does anyone have a good diagram or maybe pics of how this setup is supposed to look so I know what I need.

I could get whole axle and hub assebly at junk yard and replace also or should I diffently by new?

Thanks in advance
Bill

Buy a Haynes repair manual for your vehicle. I would replace both sides and service the entire unit.

Of course you could always swap in a unit from a junkyard, just make sure the axle ratios are the same as the rear -- you don't want to explode your transfer case.

Thanks everyone replaced the unit with CV joint axle for $90 at advanced auto. Everthing seems to be working great.

I decided not to replace the driver side because to rubber boot was not torn just twisted.

I was thinking this might of happen if something got caught in the houseing and grabbed the boot collor and housing while driving and turn the boot some. What do you uys think might have caused it?

I'd agree with your thought; maybe a branch or something got shoved up under there long enough to twist it.

Dam....oh well on the bright side you'll have new boots on both sides.

That is why I suggested changing both sides. That way you do the job once and you know it`s good and reliable.
