Hello everyone . I bought a 95 camry in great condition with 200000 miles but when you check the transmission fluid it looks like it was never changed. If I change it now will it screw it up and start slipping as I've been told it would or should I just wait for the tranny to start slipping and then start thinking about a rebuilt one . Thanks

Welcome to the AF!

If it was my tranny, I'd flush it and live with the results. If it works, it may keep working and last longer with the new fluid. Impossible to tell without seeing the insides. Just drive it easy. Don't forget, you don't know when it was changed last. It may only have 50K on the fluid and need to be changed badly. It's hard to tell where you are with that tranny. I would assume it was changed, but just not recently.

Alternatively, if you know the previous owner never changed it from when the car was new, you could just remove a couple of quarts of fluid at a time and replace them with new fluid. Then you get some good stuff back in there without totally shocking the tranny with a whole load of new fluid. Do that once a month until you've got clean fluid. YMMV

Don't forget the differential. I believe you have a separate differential that has fluid that needs to be changed periodically. Put in Dextron ATF. Be sure and change that. It will only do it good.

Thanks for the tip . I guess its all I can do. The fluid looks black , Like burnt oil . So I know I must do something . I'll try the Quart a month and see what happens .
