92 Cavalier starter problem.beeswax 05-03-2005, 10:18 PM Hello folks, I've had a weird problem for awhile now. When I turn the ignition, sometimes I will get a single click sound coming from the solenoid on the starter. Sometimes it will start right up perfectly. I've changed all the battery terminals, ground strap, and replaced starter twice. I was thinking that their might be teeth missing on the flywheel, but I checked that and all the teeth were there. When I swapped the starters out, I've tried different shim configurations, currently I'm using the original shim, and it seems to make contact with the flywheel perfectly. I think the problem is electrical related. The wires connected to the starter solenoid and starter motor looked clean. I was thinking of checking the fusible links next. Anyone experience this before, or any suggestions? Thanks smokey041369 05-04-2005, 10:50 AM check the engine to body ground strap, with a car that old that one may have wore thru enough to slow the current flow, if you can't find it run a ten gauge wire fron the engine to the neg battery terminal ( this wire is a temp use only )and see if that helps the oem strap will go from the fiewall to the engine or a tranny bolt beeswax 05-04-2005, 12:36 PM Thanks for the suggestion. I've put in a new ground strap already thinking that might be the cause, the old one was corroded and useless, but the new one is in good condition. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
