Minimum rotor thickness.camryle2001 05-02-2005, 02:43 PM I went for a brake job this weekend. The mechanic said the rotor was too think to be machined/turned. I saw his measurement for the thickness of the rotor. It was 1.033 without any units but I assume that was inches. Does anyone know what the minimum thickness is for a Camry LE 2001 front rotors? Anyway, I got just the brake pads changed. I checked the disk surface, it wasn't flat but it wasn't too bad. Little wavy but smooth. Thanks. Mike Gerber 05-02-2005, 04:13 PM The minimum thickness must be stamped somewhere on the rotor itself. It is usually on the inside hub. The thickness will differ on whether you have a 4 cylinder or a V6. The V6 uses slightly larger rotors and I believe they will also be thicker. Wondering if I could find the thickness out without taking the wheel off. Mike Gerber 05-02-2005, 04:37 PM Try calling your local auto parts store. They should be able to give it to you over the phone. Incidently, you have either and in line 4 or a V6. Mike Mike Gerber 05-02-2005, 04:44 PM I believe it's the same as the 94 Camry. Thickness new is 1.102. Minimum thickness is 1.024. Now remember 1.024 is after machining. He may be telling you there is not enough material left to machine them, especially with the warping you mentioned. Mike jsinton 05-02-2005, 07:41 PM Just go buy some new ones and put it on yourself. You'll be amazed how easy it is, and how nice your brakes. They're cheap, click link: http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductList.aspx?parttype=221&ptset=A&searchfor=Disc%2fRotor camryle2001 05-03-2005, 11:04 AM Just go buy some new ones and put it on yourself. Is there any good brand that I should consider? Thanks. jsinton 05-03-2005, 11:38 AM Here is a site that has good info. They don't have 2001 info, but I don't expect it to be different. http://www1.autozone.com/servlet/UiBroker?ForwardPage=/az/cds/en_us/0900823d/80/13/f9/82/0900823d8013f982.jsp vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
