Hello all,

hopefully someone can help:

car:

89 Accord Lx, Carb type

symptom:

when i start the car, it will idle fine but after 2 or 3 mins it will die - rpm needle just drops to 0, but if i apply some gas in it, it will continue to run and if i let go, it will die. i'm thinking its something to do with the fuel. what should i check besides the fuel pump?

I dunno, but im thinking that your idle is too low. It runs for a bit because of the Cold Idle, it has your car idle a little higher to warm the engine up. Try adjusting your idle screw.

I try to know as little about Honda carbs as possible, but here's some general info. Most have a vacuum pull-off that slowly opens the choke and allows the idle to step down incrementally as the engine warms up. Some also use a choke control spring that changes it's tension on the choke plate as the engine warms it.

If the choke opens too quickly, it will die. If it doesn't open fully within a few minutes, it will die. If the fast idle cam steps down too early, it will die.

Does it idle normally once fully warmed up?

SOUNDS LIKE MINE but mine just idals 1 or 2 bars lower than 1.rpm but when i hit the gas it sounds like its going to die and when i let off the gas it makes a squeeking noise. and some times when i start to go in reverse *manual LX-i* it will sometimes die on me even though i do every thing right.
