Diesel Additive / FAP Filter

I have a Peugot 2001 307 110 HDI which has a warning on the dash that Deisel addative is at a minimum. I have just taken this to the dealership who has told me this will cost £500 to fix (200 for a new FAP filter, and 5 litre of additive at 19 per litre). This seems an excesive course of action and a lot of money for something that I have read needs doing every 48000 miles. Has anyone else had any experience of this or am I beiong ripped off..?

Not sure about your car.

But I have a 2003 model with a FAP filter and from the maintenance schedule, the FAP filter only needs to be maintained every 48000 miles. Not replaced. I was quoted about £500 for the full 48000 service from the dealer.

I just went my local service station for the regular check-up, thinking the FAP on mine needed maintenance next service, but they checked and apparently the FAP on mine only needs to be serviced/changed (?) at 120.000 km's (75.000 miles) . I guess mine is a second generation then.

Car I drive: 307 SW 110 HDI FAP ;)

I have a problem with my Peugeot 307 HDI FAP.I bought the car in 2002 and it passed 70,000 km.Three months ago the "UNBLOCK DIESEL FILTER" warning appeared on my screen.The guys at Peugeot service told me that problem came from FAP filter.Lately I found out that my FAP filter have a storage carring 5 liters of special additive needed for FAP operation.So, apparently my problem was the lack of that additive oil.I ordered about 1,5 liter of that additive and the warning stoped.Now,I have new problem.When I bought the car its fuel comsuption was 6,5 l/100 km.Now it is 8,2 l/100 km and I can not understand what is going on.Please help me!!!Don't tell me to ask my country's official dealer because I don't believe them.One more thing,please tell me what is the price of 1 liter of FAP additive oil in EU?I payed 1 liter about 50 euros here.Thank you in advance!Please help me!!

the 307 Fap additve tank holds 4 liters of fluid its topped up at each 48k service the filter needs changing at 72k if your mfd says filter blocked it could be that the sensor that checks the pressure through the filter had water contamination and the filter is actually ok on 307 the sensor is behind the battery bolted just under the brake servo pull the pipes off and see if water is present

A couple of weeks ago my 307 HDI 110 gave me the warning message Blocked Diesel filter...it flicked on then went off in a few minutes...this happened again last week...I have not noticed any difference in performance. Anyway I went to the dealer who said it needed a new filter etc and the cost would be £322. When I took the car in the warning light was off...the dealer said he had cleaned the filter...but I needed a new one...how does he know this as the warning light was still off when I picked the car up?

I have just added 3 litres of fap additive but still the 'Diesel additive minimum level' is coming on, anyone got any ideas?

the reservoir is just in front of the rear nearside tyre, you should be able to see the white plastic tank, I have just added 3 litres myself but cant get the warning to go off

Hi, please bear with me, this is my 1st post. The PSA group FAP filter uses very specialised particulate fluid, (highly toxic, and potentially carcinogenic!), and there are 2 types, which one you need depends on the build code of your vehicle, (check with your dealer), but they are similarly priced at approx. £26-£30 GBP per litre! Bear in mind that even if you undertake to fill the tank yourself, (no mean feat considering your dealer will charge bewteen 2-3 hours labour because of what is involved!), you will still have to get your dealer to plug the diagnostic computer into your car to tell the engine ECU that the tank has been filled, this is why a lot of people are finding their warning lights staying on even after filling up the fluid, so basically Peugeot has got you one way or the other! Also, even if you fill your tank yourself, and get it re-programmed on 'Diag', the car will still have to be 're-generated', this involves the 'Diag' machine taking over the running of the car, and revving the engine to maintain a high enough temperature to burn of the debris within the FAP filter, that said, you can do this yourself by getting on a motorway, (night time is best), and driving in 5th or 6th gear at at least 70 mph for a minimum of 10 minutes. If you have to slow below 70 mph at any time, then you might have to re-start the procedure. If after all this your display still says, "Unblock diesel filter", then the dealer will say you need a new FAP filter. I have heard of people removing the filter, (some split from the CAT, some are all one piece, I would not recommend doing this if yours is a one piece FAP/CAT!), and cleaning it with various detergents/steam cleaners before replacing it, and guess what? It has been fine ever since! Even if you buy a replacement FAP filter from your dealer, when you open the box you'd be mistaken for thinking you'd been given an old one, that's because they are exchange units, and when they go back to the factory they are overhauled, I do not know exactly what they do, but they come back looking like they have just been taken off a car! (Perhaps they use the detergent/steam cleaner method!). So a bit of home motorist DIY could well save you a small fortune. But remember, this is not recommended by Peugeot, and could invalidate any warranty were applicable.
I hope this helps some of you out there. :banghead:

My local garage got the additive from Citreon - exact same stuff - at a fraction of the price! Less than £100 for complete job.
