Bimmer or Beamer and why?NismoDrifts 04-07-2002, 12:39 AM ok peeps this is a stupid person with a stupid question.........but i need to solve an argument is it: 1.) Beamer or 2.) Bimmer and why? and im sorry for the stupidity, trying to win an argument (thats why i need the reasoning) aight THANKS! crayzayjay 04-08-2002, 07:40 PM both. just because Craig Sieminski 04-15-2002, 11:03 AM I have always referred to my car as a BMW, exactly because I am not sure which is the right pronunciation. However, many people around where I live (central Maryland) say Beamer, but not one has pronounced it Bimmer. I have, however seen it spelled 'Bimmer' in car magazines. No idea. I, too, would be grateful for some definitive advice. crayzayjay 04-15-2002, 01:24 PM seriously, i doubt you'll find a proper answer to that question as there just isnt one... theyre just alternative ways of saying BMW... people call it what they want to call it... theres no wrong or right... bimmer, beamer, bee em.. etc... just because some journo says it, it doesnt make it the "right" word... Craig Sieminski 04-15-2002, 03:02 PM OK, thanks. Yeah, I forgot--Notorious B.I.G., as well as a Nigerian friend I have, refer to them as Bee Em's. I think I'll stick with BMW, though. crayzayjay 04-15-2002, 06:12 PM dont forget - "Sim Simma, who got the keys to my Bimmer, who am i? the girls dem suga! etc etc..." :D 3.5litermoose 04-15-2002, 09:15 PM BMW cars are bimmers, BMW motorcycles are beamers....why i dont know, thats just the way it is ....does it really matter that much? NismoDrifts 04-16-2002, 03:32 PM No it isnt, it just came up between a friend and i. And ive always used "bimmer" but pronounced it as beamer coz i remember reading something from some people on a forum i used to belong to, and they said it was spelled bimmer for a reason (founding members or something) and i wanted to know if anyone else heard something similar crayzayjay 04-17-2002, 01:45 PM never heard that motorcycle theory. we just call any BMW beemer or bimmer 'round here jinushaun 04-19-2002, 11:49 AM Originally posted by 3.5litermoose BMW cars are bimmers, BMW motorcycles are beamers....why i dont know, thats just the way it is ....does it really matter that much? That's what I heard. I spell it bimmer and beamer, but pronounce it "bee-mer" either way. mattsbeamer 05-09-2002, 01:45 PM Thats what I heard too. Thats before I created my user name.:flash: gang$tarr 05-11-2002, 08:27 PM it's spelt bimmer but pronounced bee-mer beamer is just the dumb way of writing it :) that's why there's a magazine called bimmer and not beamer crayzayjay 05-13-2002, 07:36 PM so effectively theyre both pronounced the same way? whats the point? jinushaun 05-14-2002, 12:26 AM Originally posted by crayzayjay so effectively theyre both pronounced the same way? whats the point? Again... Beamer = motorcycles Bimmer = automobiles Btw, Beamer came first, for obvious reasons. crayzayjay 05-14-2002, 03:29 PM yyyyyyyyyyes........ But again, with no difference in pronounciation, whats the point? jinushaun 05-14-2002, 11:38 PM Originally posted by crayzayjay yyyyyyyyyyes........ But again, with no difference in pronounciation, whats the point? I think they sound the same to show that they're both BMWs, but spelt differently to show that they're not exactly alike. I dunno. Anarki_Renegades 07-02-2002, 12:08 AM I've always understood that it was spelled 'Bimmer' but pronounced 'Beamer'. Never understood the reasoning behind this, but really, who cares? Clarko 07-03-2002, 05:02 AM Actually "bimmer" has been in usage for a long time starting with the motorcycle boys.Beamer did not come into use until the 80's when the whole yuppie surge of people buying the label rather than the car.As a result many of us "older" folk have a bit of resentment towards this yuppiespeak label. madmattie 10-17-2002, 11:16 PM :flash: PEOPLE!!!!!!! EVERYTHING SAID IS WRONG: LISTEN! IT'S BIMMER FOR CARS THAT'S PRONOUNCED BIM - MER AND ONLY THAT WAY DONT MAKE THAT MISTAKE IT DOES MATTER IT'S BEEMER/BEAMER FOR MOTORCYCLE - BEEM - ER THAT'S THE BOTTOM LINE crayzayjay 10-19-2002, 10:15 AM ok stupid people what a nice way to make your first post, a-hole! vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
