I have a 1994 5.2 with a bad CPS and I can't find the part even after consulting the manual. My Chilton indicates that the CPS is on the R side behind the exhaust manifold. I've removed the ECV, heat shield, removed injector leads, etc. and I still can't find the part. Do I need to remove the manifold as well? I've tried to locate the part from every angle and even with my mirror, I can't see the part. Any suggestions as to how to find the part and replace? Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Look a little further back/down...it is right at the back of the block, behind the head, where the transmission bell housing meets the block.

Thanks for the reply.

Believe me I've looked directly behind the block and the only sensor that is directly behind the block and in front of the bell housing is the oil temp. sender. Do you need to remove the R. manifold to view/replace.

Again, thanks for the help.

Finding the CPS is really the hardest part and the advise that I would give is that you don't need to drop the tranny, but you will scrape your hands and arms up while you change the part. The part - as the manual states - is directly behind and down from the R rear manifold. According to Jeep, during the 94 production year they used 2 different styles of CPS: one of the styles had a flat metal based that attached to the bell housing and the other had a raised ceramic base that also attached to the bell housing. All of the manuals referred to the flat metal type. Of course, my cps type was the raised ceramic type so I kept overlooking the part as it didn't appear to be correct. Also, you will not be able to see the part unless you use a mirror. Now for the most important information that I can pass on. The two bolts that hold the cps on to the bell housing have a hex head insert, so if you feel two bolts sitting on top of the bell housing, then you located the part. Good luck.
