Tried to install aftermarket audio sys. now car is going crazyjohnson636 04-24-2005, 11:42 AM Hello guys, My wife and I just purchased a 94 Grand Cherokee Limited abou a week ago. It came with a preinstalled factory security and Infinity sound system. When I had taken out the deck and replaced it with my pioneer I noticed that there was something most definetly weird going on. I tried fiddling with the wires: ACC, 12V, ILL, Park. Now my CD player will only come on if I connect my power wires to the 12V and ACC wires to the JGC. OK cd player comes on but weird things happen. Security lights start flashing and other weird things. After dealing with this for about 3hrs I gave up and just reconnected the factory infinity cd player. Now after putting everthing back the way it was, I turned the key to the ACC position (turned the key backward) the radio plays fine. But I still noticed some strang things going on. When I start the vehicle, or turn the ignition to the on position, the radio flashes off and on, panel light flash off and on, the little display panel that shows if the door is ajar etc. flickers off and on. Also, I can not lock the doors using the lock button anymore. If I were to press it, nothing happens. If I wanted to locke the door, I would have to manually lock each door; but there is no way for me to manually lock the hatch door. As a matter of fact, it doesn't respond at all whether I press the unlock or lock button. It does the same with the little key alarm switches. One last thing, before I tampered with the radio, when the door war ajar, it made a normal sound: ding, ding, ding. Now it doesn't make the ding sound, It makes a clicking sound; click, click, click, click. It does that rapidly. I hate that these manufatures fix it where you'd have to come back to them for modifications. I have to get this fixed; My wife is pissed at me.an anyone help PS sorry for the long post, I just wanted to post all the problems. glass 04-24-2005, 01:33 PM well...............if you hooked everything back up as it was from the factory ..........suggest you disconect the battery for 5 min to clear the computer , and being a 94 like mine , suggest you remove inspect, clean the fuses you can get to , and reinstall them if good , use the keyless fob to recycle the doors , if you have one , check the alarm switch under the hood, near the battery , i disconected mine as it kept setting off the alarm, since i have the same car as you described, i don t understand why you have no manual lock at the back hatch , that lock is often used to reset the alarm on mine , hope that helps , and by the way , the factory alarm in that car is integeral to the operation of the car, it s touchy , and irritating , wish mine was never installed , but we gotta go with what we got .. johnson636 04-24-2005, 02:30 PM I drove the jeep to church this morning and found that, When the car is on and the door is open, all the lights that were flashing stop. You say that you have disconnected yours; How? Where exactly is the alarm switch. After you disconnected the alarm, did your jeep's electrical system work normal? My CD player doesn't work whil;e the Jeep is started or the ignition switch is on, But it will work if the car is off and the ignition switch is in ACC. My cherokee is acting really retarded right about now. One minute the doors unlock and the next minute the won't. Panel and CD player flickering. There has got to be a solution for this. This is crazy PS. You say if I disconnect the battery it might reset the computer? Well I'll give it a try, but I had the battery disconnected the whole time that I was installing the audio system. glass 04-24-2005, 04:34 PM the only part of the alarm system i disconected was the under hood switch, located near the battery , on the wheel well, i just disconected the pig tail wire from it , other posts here say the only way to deactivate the alarm is to ground the purple wire in the drivers side door , but suggest you research that in the previous posts here johnson636 04-24-2005, 04:51 PM I really haven't heard anything like this with other vehicles; Is Chrysler doing this on purpose? I know that you disconnected the hood switch, but did all of your lights and radio start to work properly? What color is the alarm hood switch? My cd player doesn't work while the car is started, but it will work if the car is in ACC and all the doors are closed. If I open a door, the cd player will turn off. Man, this totally insane. What exactly do you mean by, "ground the purple wire in the driverside door? Man, this is insane. Can anyone lead me in the right direction? johnson636 04-25-2005, 12:48 AM OK guys, the hell with this factory alarm. I want to permanely shut it down. I've read that if you find a purple and yellow wire located in the driverside kick panel, and ground it, that will shut it down. First off I see four different purple wires. On one plug, there is a purple wire with an orange stripe, a purple wire with a white stripe, and a purple plug with a yellow stripe(mostly purple with the yellow strip). On another plug, there is a mostly yellow wire with a purple stripe. I tried the mostly purple wire with yellow stripe. Now when you say ground it to the chasis, do you mean, cut the wire in half and then touch it to the chasis or metal part of the vehicle. Or do you mean leave the wire intake but reveal the wire itself, take a seperate piece of wire, connect it to the exposed wire and then touch it to the chasis? I've tried both, but I didn't seem to get any results. It didn't even draw a spark. Anyway, my panel lights stil go crazy, I can no longer unlock or lock the doors using the button that is on the driverside door. CD player still flickers on and off. Can someone tell me if thats the correct wire and if I'm following the correct procedures to disconnect the alarm johnson636 04-25-2005, 06:22 PM Well guys, I finally solved my problem. I could have sworn it had something to do with this stupid alarm system, but it wasn't. After hours and hour of mind boggling thinking, tampering, picking, and fiddling in places other than the problem area, I almost gave up and attempted suicide. Then I searched in a place were I just knew could not have been the problem; Yep, the fuse box. It turned out that the #8 fuse was blown. It supplied the Overhead Console, Keyless Entry, Radio Memory/ Clock Memory/ Chime Module, Power Locks, Power Mirrors, HEVAC, and VIC. I didn't think to look there because before this happened, I had the knowledge that if a fuse was blown, then what ever that was tied to that particular fuse wouldn't work at all. That had always been the case until now. This is the only vehicle that I've seen, that would allow items that were tied to a blown fuse, to continue working, under certain circumstances. Like the radio would come on if the jeep was in ACC and all the doors were closed (weird). This was too simple; If I had known Saturday, when I was hooking up my aftermarket system, That the problem was a damn blown fuse, Then I'd have some crazy bass flowing from our jeep. If you are wondering If I'll attempt to hook my aftermarket system up again, the answer is HEEEELLLLL NO :); I'm gonna pay a professional to do it. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
