93 foul odors from vents fchanes 04-24-2005, 03:05 AM
93 Camry V6 has foul odors from vents during AC use. Any help? Are there any filters that can be changed? Also the vents whisle when in the recurculating mode. I plan on replacing a badly cracked dash and could use some pointers from those that have done it. Thanks. quincyguy 04-25-2005, 10:48 AM You have moldy growth in the a/c evaporator box. Pop the hood and spray a mixture lemon-scented lysol & water into the screen by the wipers. This will get sucked into the ventilation system and clean it up nicely. Recommend you do this at beginning of a/c season yearly. There are comm. products for this but try the Lysol, it's cheaper and also good around the house. Re: R&R the dash, get a Haynes manual B4 you attempt this Shalom Jim gator2764 04-25-2005, 01:38 PM You can also get a large sqeeze bottle and fill it with lysol. Just tape a tube to the top of the bottle and slide it in the drain line under the car and sqeeze the bottle so it goes up the drain and sits around your evep. core for a few minutes. Don't forget to tape the two line together so it won't leak all over you. jsinton 04-25-2005, 01:42 PM They have spray products at the auto parts store specifically made for this problem. I saw it on "Goss's Garage" on Motor Week. hottmamita 04-30-2005, 02:20 PM Thank you guys for posting all these suggestions. I am having the same problem and i took my 93 camry to my mechanic and he made sure the drain was clear and then he sprayed some Comet on the vents in front of the windshield and he told me about the mold. he said to spary some lysol in there because it is a antibacterial and will help get rid of the smell overtime. I was very confused and upset about that smell and then i checked around and found all these helpful suggestions. So thanks again. Related Links Enter the largest automotive community on the planet! |
