Replace Belt Tensioner on 01 Corsica

The belt tensioner has broke on my 91 Corsica 4-cyl 2.2L. I have gotten a new one and it looks like I will have to remove the power steering pump pully in order to get to one of the bolts. Is there an easy way to do it or will I have to start messing around with jacking up the engine?

You'll likely have to lower the engine some to get to the lower bolts on the tensioner. And just unbolt the PS pump and move it out of the way to get to the other one. :bigthumb: Pullin the pulley off is just a royal pita.

Could you suggest the best way to go about doing that? I am somewhat of a car newbie and dont really have all that many specialized tools.

Just put a jack with a small section of 2x4 on the head of it under the oil pan. Raise the jack until it lifts the weight of the engine off the mounts. Unbolt the motor mounts and lower the engine on the jack until you can get enough clearance to undo the lower bolts on the tensioner. If you dont have a haynes or chiltons manual for your car, its probably a good idea to get one.

Did you end up getting the motor to run. I had the same thing happen to the 1990 2.2. I think I may have to replace the valves it is still not starting after replacing the tensioner and chain can gears.

The motor always ran, even with a broken tensioner, just not for very long. With no belt running the water pump it overheated very quickly and stalled out within 5 minutes. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
