1970 Nova SS:

Ok, so a new alternator didn't help and I've check all the wiring...is there something else that I am missing...I am very new at working on cars, so I hope you all don't laugh at my question...

Any suggestions would be awesome! Thanks for taking your time to answer!

Also, does it matter that the horn relay isn't hooked up? Since I don't have a horn...huh...this sucks!

Does the alternator have an internal voltage regualtor? Check the upper drives side of your radiator support, right in you engine bay, for a little black box. Sounds like that could be the problem. If not, you may have gotten a faulty alternator. Bring it to any autoparts store and have it checked.

You should also make sure that the wires going into your voltage requlator are in good shape. If there not making a full connection the regulator won't send enough power bake to the battery. If that is all good then you should start the car and with a volt-meter test the battery. You should be getting around 14 volts to it. Then if thats all good then it might be charging but you may have a short. To test that just disconect the negative cable and with a test light hook one end up to a groung and the other to the negative terminal. If it lights then there is a short. Just make sure the ign. is off and your int. lights arn't turned on (opened door). Good luck I just went through this on my 72 and it turned out to be my regulator wasn't plugged in all the way.
