'90 Ninety-Eight A/C blower and front panel vents
jbmckee 04-19-2005, 02:47 PM Hi all, I seem to have a problem with the automatic (electronic) climate control on my '90 98 Brougham. The "mode" controls doen't seem to have full authority over the dash panel (front) vents. This happens whether the ECC is set on Auto or I've dialed in a temp and fan setting manually. Sometimes when I want air to vent from the front panel, it goes to the dash top vents under the windshield instead. I can toggle through all the different mode settings and any of them that include "Upper" will dump the air to the dash top vents. Since the A/C doesn't seem to move much air in the first place, it's quite aggrivating to not have any way way to force the front panel vents to work. If I try the A/C controls during the course of the day (when the front vents refuse to work) I can't get them to respond. If I leave the car overnight and perhaps don't use the A/C for an entire day, then next day I try the controls I *can* get air out of the front panel. This leads me to believe that something might be getting stuck (due to temperature levels in the engine compartment?) and leaving it sit overnight (giving it a full cool-down) somehow unsticks the problem. Anybody have the same problem or know if a possible solution? BTW - The fan makes a bunch of noise when it's on "High" but doesn't move the air as much as one would expect with all that noise. Any ideas on how to increase the airflow? If this is how it behaved when new, I'm sure there were quite a few complaints. I've only had this car since November '04 but it's been in the family and babied since new. Thanks! -Jay AutomotiveHelper.com, Copyright ©2013
