Help! Leaking Bright Green Fluid!

We have a 2002 Chevy Venture with 75,000 miles on it. Last week we had the air conditioning fixed for $1,500. We were told we needed a new condenser. Thankfully the air now works, but since geting the van back we have had a nice puddle of bright green fluid on the garage floor each time we leave. We took the van back to the place that "fixed" it and they said they can find nothing wrong. If anyone knows what this liquid is and what the problem might be, please help! thanks so much!!!!

Well here is what it isn't:
-motor oil
-Trans fluid
-PWR steering fluid
-battery acid
-Brake fluid

This leaves:
-windshield cleaner (have seen green stuff)
-Coolant (factory is orange but can be green)
-A/c (I have no idea but I would think it would evapourate and you would not see it)

Not too much help I know but at least it's a starting point.

if its green - its going to be anti-freeze.

please describe the location of the puddle in relationship to the van - is it on the drivers side? passanger side? behind the tires? front part of the engine? etc..

i suspect it might be the water pump.

have you been overheating? or running hot?

$1500! - Must have been a dealer. But then again, replacing the condenser takes a while in these vans (lots of labor time).

My bet (99.9% sure) is the it is A/C dye. Tracer dye is usually injected when the system is recharged these days - to help locate leaks. It shows up REAL WELL under a black light (try that in your garage :smile: ).

I recently had a similar problem (see link below) with my A/C. During the steps to get it fixed, it gushed out freon and dye. Yep - bright green.

Your system COULD be leaking OR some of the dye came out or spilled during the repair and was NOT CLEANED UP. Most shops use a detergent to clean up after working on the system.

If your A/C still works after a several days to a few weeks, you probably don't have a leak.

I would take it back to the shop again and have them find the drip and clean it up.

I agree with the A/C dye.
Gather a sample from the floor and take it to the shop. They will know it by sight.

I agree, might want to make sure it isn't leaking again! If it keeps leaving a green puddle, it might be just a matter of time before the air quits again. I agree with the others that it is probably the leak detecting dye. I to use this in research and development (auto industry).
