Did you try turning the silencer to see if there was a lock in lip so it wouldn't fall out if the screw came undonw? I honestly don't know since I don't have an aftermarket exhaust, maybe if you said what type it is someone could help.

Its just stuck,
Man I had a hell of a time gettin mine out too,
What you gotta do is spray it with some penetrating oil, or WD-40, around where it meets the pipe, and grab it with some pliers, I didn't think that mine would come out at first...
you gotta PULL it, little twisting wont hurt either,
I took mine out while it was off the car though, so it was easier having my brother hold it, while it was at chest level,
came out with a bang, and hit my chest with the pliers,

Once you've got it out of there you should be able to wipe off both surfaces and get it in and out easier...

But once you've gotten it out, I doubt that you'll put it back in.
I know I didn't

had the same problem with mine, best u can do is lubricate, and pull and twist, it will come out eventually.

since my last post I've put mine back in, it quiets "silences" it too much for me, Took it back out, its much better

But good luck with it,

BTW you should let the WD-40 sit in there a few minutes, but tap the silencer to set up vibration and allow the WD-40 to get in between the two

Penetrating oil is better, but its all about what you have
