Ok after digging thru here and doing some hunting with my DMM I found the fuel pump was bad on my 1990 ts.

SoI changed It and now the ts runs again. now for the questions.

1. When putting the pump back in I forgot the white/yellow plastic sleeve thats in the very top above the rubber hose that connects the pump to the metal tube Is this a problem?

And 2. The fuel gauge reads the same as it did before I changed the pump but when you gas or brake the gauge goes to full then back to where it should be what did I do (yes I admit I did It but it runs and I saved 200.00 over the shop so far) ?

Thank you for any help with this Brian kc0kfg

I do not know if this is physically possible but if there are no "notches" on the round pump/tank interface, it is possible that you have installed it so the float is now swivelled lengthwise instead of sideways so fuel displacement during braking and acceleration has more influence than before on the float position....I see these variations on mine too but what you describe seems to be more severe.
No idea about the hose.......

Well after driving it for a 1/2 an hour it stoped making the fuel gauge swim.

Here is what I am now thinking it was, if you look at the float its ment to lay flat and ride on top of the fuel what I think it was doing was somehow it was straight up and down so the fuel pushed it front to back .
As I drove it must have put its self back in the right plane to stop moving so much.

Oh well what ever it was its not doing it now.

If you have any thoughts about the yellow spacer please let me know.

Thanks for the thoughts and I will be back This is a great site.!!!
