I love motor cylces. Every motor cycle have a purpose.....

VTX, Soft Tail, Warriror..................Cruising
929RR, GSXR, .............................Racing

I just have beef with punk kids in sport bikes on the street. Or as they call it "croch rockets" First of all they're a danger to all of us. 1/4mi and stop light grand prix is kids stuff and exspecially dangous on the street. Today's sport bike has 90% of performance of the AMA Super Bikes. We don't need kids who think they know how to ride going crazy on the street. Not that I'm Nicky Hayden but I perfer to take my sport bike on the track. On the other hand, stupid kids who has the market share of those sport bike keeps the price down for the rest of us who truly enjoy racing on the track. How else could I have put togather a super sport class (600cc)bike for under $6000.

There has been a dramatic change in the riding styles of sportbike owners. It used to be cool to be able to drag a knee, and be an all around good rider. Now the emphesis is on stunting. The new generation of riders judge eachother riding skills by how long you can ride a wheelie. I cant count the number of times I have had some newbie ask how long I could keep the front wheel up. I usualy say I don't ride like that. Then they will make some comment about how I cant ride blah blah blah. I usualy walk away. No sence in wasting my breath on somebody who is going toturn themselves into a human asphalt crayon. Even worse are the idiots the wreck while screwing around and turn it into their insurance company. Be an adult, you screwed up, you pay for it. Why should my insurance rates go up because of your stupidity....

Dont forget all the BABs and RUBs infesting the cruiser world. They are doing their part to give motorcycling another black eye.

Stands on soap box.... The US needs a better liscensing system. The one we have now is a joke. Some 16 year old kid can walk into a dealer, plop down a wad of cash and walk out with a Busa. He doesn't have to show proof of insurance, he doesn't have to show that he has an M endorsement, nothing.... We need a graduated system like the UK or Austrailia. You are stuck on a 250 for 2 years. Yes, you can still get hurt, but your not going to wipe out a bus load of nuns trying to see if you can hit 200 mph. Something needs changed. The MSF course should be manditory!!! ...gets off soap box.

I agree, but I don't think it's that simple. 250cc bikes are limited to dirt bikes and GP bikes (Not street leagal), far as I know. Further more there is a big difference between 600cc Harley and 600cc F4. I don't think you can just put a regulation on displacement. I think its better to classify them as follows:

1) Small cruiser <1000cc
2) Big cruiseer > 1000cc

3) Small Sport Bikes < 750cc
4) Big Sport Bikes > 750cc

First step allows you to ride small cruiser
Second step allows you to ride 1), 2), 3)
Then 4).

Although I know I shouldn't open my mouth seeing as how I have been riding bikes for about 4 years now without ever taking time to get the motorcycle license stamp. However I do totally agree with you, sport bikes in my opinion were designed for a specific reason. racing.

And not racing on city streets or highways, but for flying around the track so fast you aren't sure if it is you or the bike shaking. I take my R6 to the track to race all the time, although right now it has the stock body panels on it and not the single piece fiberglass I have.

Riding on the track totally relieves all my need for racing. I don't need to prove myself by racing some amatuer on the city street taking chances and endagering other peoples lives other then my own.

I think that you should not classify cruisers by cc, but rather by hp/weight ratio. I have a 93 Vulcan 750 that has a jet kit and added a cool waterpump over-ride switch :) and it absolutely mutilates harleys and many other cruisers as far as performace is concerned.

The motorcycle license test is far too easy, even though I haven't yet taken it, I have the diagram of what I have to do in order to pass, and it is a joke.

I enjoy my bike, I however don't enjoy my insurance costs or as of lately the stereotypical judging.

soooooooooo, you're calling all us rider under 25 punks? Well i take offense to taht. Nothing like stereotypes and generalizations. Im 17 and own a motorcycle. suzi DR650. Not exactly what i call a sportbike, but i think im a pretty decent rider. I have been riding motorcycles for more than 10 years. Theres actaully a LOT of us "punk kids" that are good riders, and we hate the morons just as much as the rest of you guys, because tehy give US a bad name.

But whatever, not like you guys would know my age if you saw me ride. I just cant wait to save up for the CBR600:)

I am a beginner on a 650cc BMW bike. I've ridden my share of dirtbikes as a younger child, so I am perfectly capable of handling this motorcycle. As for the 250 debate, I swear I saw one on the street the other day (dubbed so by my father, a MANY year veteran rider, and AMA member).

The permit system is a joke. I sent a piece of paper into the DMV, and 3 weeks later, I got another piece of paper saying that I'm street-legal with a liscensed rider "within yelling distance" of me at all times. Hell, you can't get into a car without knowing general road knowledge, why should it be any different? I plan on taking my state's Motorcycle safety course, which grants me my liscense if I pass. That is a very good way, IMHO to be given your liscense.

Despite the fact that the above posts are very eloquent, and thought-out, there still needs to be the factor that not everyone has a deathwish, and ricer-boys should be left with their card-toting car members. If the lot of them want to go to some deserted road or track and leave their own flesh on there, I am all for it. The fewer the @ssholes, the better. Just don't make the rest of us pay for it b/c you are too stupid to use roads that innocent people ARE NOT on.

I took my bike test on a CBR 1000. Let me tell you it was a bitch. Ofcourse that bike had a short lock-to-lock on the steering. Good bike once it got rolling but was a hand full at walking speeds. Not sure of your states test but in Ohio you basically go about 5 mph the entire test. There is a part of the test where you do a 90 degree turn. Like I said I couldn't turn the bars that much. I passed but barely.

I could have taken the test on a smaller bike but that was the bike I was riding at the time so I thought I should be able to pass the test with it. It amazes me of the guys who ride the smaller sportbikes and have to buzz me while riding a wheelie. You watch them set it down and they wobble. WTF? That doesn't impress me. I ride alot of twisties by my house. I can't drag a knee (not without dragging the rest of the bike:D ) because my bike is such a big pig but I still go 20 over the posted limit.
The weird thing is I see bikes all over at coffee, fast food shops but never on the road.
anyone else ever notice that?

my first bike was an 1981 seca 750. i had it for a little more then a year and thought i was ready for a sportbike after taking a motorcycle safety course. I bought a 99 cbr600F4 and wrecked it the next day.
Yeah you're all laughing cuz i thought i was the $Hit and was messing around. But I also wrecked it on the backstretch of highway 234 i think is what one it is... down by Tucson AZ halfway to phoenix... only wrecked cuz my back tire blew... but yes i am a punk kid cuz I paid to have my bike fixed, (didn't turn it into insurance cuz it was my fault) and spent the next year at the track learning how to race. still can't quite drag my knee but i can wheelie and stoppie as well as outride most of the guys that i've ever ridden with. i only have a 600 but it keeps up almost everywhere and i can flick it along any back road with no problem.
Just to generalize all young people as punk's that are out to race and cause a ruckus is a blatant stereotype. that's like saying that women shouldn't ride or that all men over 30 need to stick to cruisers. If i said and meant either one of those things not only would i be stupid i'd be criticized like no other. Just because you are older and "more responsible" doesn't make you any better of a rider. Sometimes it just means you're more narrow minded and set in your ways.

we'll i dont have a motorcycle but i think the person that started this thread is stereotyping people. have you watched news recently about the "Hells Angels" (a bike gang consisting of cruiser bikes) these old ADULTS duking it out with each other and causing alot of violence. these men ages from 30 - 50 years old, and your saying kids are the ones causing the violence? dont the "adults" supppose to be more "responsible"? then please tell me why this would happen? atleast we're not endangering other people like how you "adults" do. if you want to stereotype these kids then im going to stereo type your bitter ass too.

Yeah I see where all of you older riders arecomming from when it comes to wreckless driving. But you know if you guys starts wanting to change laws and regulations your gonna spoil it for those of us who don't drive like that. I figure there should be tighter penulties for those breaking the rules. That I think would be a decent compramise between those of us who mean buisness and just want to have fun and those who are just idiots:D

Easy tiger ;)

No one said anything about violence. It's about foolish "children" (as in the legal term) and even young adults (as in 20-year-olds) who do not know their limits. Everyone knows they're out there.

I am a very timid rider at this point, being both a girl, and riding a rather tall bike. I have no desire to go flying around at over 90mph with shorts, a tee shirt, and no helmet as my only protection. Although there is some sterotyping going on, I think it is not wholly incorrect.

As a punk kid on a sports bike... I will say this:

I agree that most kids drive their bikes like idiots. Same goes for cars, trucks, minivans, whatever. However, anyone can be a bad rider/driver. I think the problem is with liscencing a lot. In Milwaukee at least, I can go to the DMV, take a 5 minutes test consisting of about 20 simple questions, and get my learner's permit. I can ride my bike home by myself. I *think* you're not supposed to ride at night or with passengers, but when you get your temps, they don't give you any paperwork that says that, as it is with your temps for a car. You don't have to ride with someone experienced. You can just go go go. Most kids just get that, and drive until it expires, then go get a new one.

That's stupid, there obviously has to be a learner's permit type of system to learn to ride, but it can't be so free from restriction like it is now.

Anyways, I think there are plenty of kids out there that handle their bikes like morons, but they mostly get hit by cars and aren't a problem for very long. I'm far more worried about other cars than anything else. Whether I'm on a huffy or in a bus.

im kind of in the middle here.

im 30, in australia, and have owned an nsr 250 (2 stroke).

jesus that thing flew, still had most of the tread left on the front tyre when i was done with it.

owned it while holding probationary license, and it blew off bigger bikes, i clocked it (190 kmh) in fifth and then clicked up to sixth. probably pulled about 230 kph out of it

then i got a VF1000. difference here is i can now cruise on 160 mph with a pillion and luggage, and it still has a kick if i twist the throttle.

it was a much more user friendly bike, even though it had more balls.

maybe australia doesnt have the right licensing system either???

education course is how you obtain your license (not learners permit)

2 stroke 250's have been banned for learners in NSW but not Victoria.

i did really stupid things on bikes for over 7 years but survived.

i was a courier in melbourne, and trashed one bike.

eight months ago i was riding home from night school, doing everything right. leaving two seconds between myself and the car in front, doing the speed limit. got t boned by a guy in a bmw who said he didnt see me.

yes my headlight was working.

the sum we are faced with is metal + flesh = damage.

doesnt matter if its your own stupidity or someone elses when your lying in a hsopital bed racked with pain, with bones sticking out your leg.

sorry if this is too morbid :D

Ok, I agree sorta. When I was 16 I got my learners permit. Even though I have been riding dirt bikes, and racing them in motorcross since I was 5. With a lousy 5 minute, 20 question test I was capable of riding on the street. But on my 18th birthday my mom and dad bought me a Yamaha Virago 250. I rode it for about a year, and took it to get my endorsements. I had always wanted a sportbike, so for my 19th birthday. I bought myself a Kawasaki Ninja 250... (this was before I knew that they could put dog bones on bikes and lower them.) Then in February I sold my Virago and got myself a CBR 600 Smoking Joes Racing Edition. Basically, my whole point is people should start off on smaller bikes. Like Kennedy200 said, but my Ninja has a good bit of power. I out ran a ZX7 with it on a drag strip...

I agree with most of whats said about younger kids.

Im only 19, and i've only been riding since i was 17. Infact, i've been riding longer than i've been driving.

I got my permit, then a month later took the Safety Class, i went from not knowing anything to graduating at the top of my class. I know that doesnt mean much but it is to me haha.

i consider myself an OK rider, i cant drag a knee (if i did, it would really hurt cause i dont have leathers or the knee pads) and i cant do wheelies (only 60hp) or stoppies (brakes arent THAT good)... big deal. i dont think im going to cry in my pillow tonight for that. i just enjoy riding whenever i can find the time to.

Im glad i took my saftey class, its saved my ass a few times. none of which was my fault, but cars that dont look out for bikes. which is my biggest pet peev.

The "Icy Hot Stuntas" scene on bikes is ridiculous... and apparantly addicting. Two riders in my "crew" were little stunters, and they are now bringing over their Starboyz videos and trying to get the rest of the boys into it...

As for me, there's something bad enough about riding (and losing ground... FAST) at 100mph behind people pulling 12 o'clock wheelies in the dark in traffic that isn't appealing to me. :o

Would this be referring to me by chance? Maybe Tom, or Kenny? Maybe I just opened his eyes to some of the other things you can do on a sportbike? Like I always say, don't knock what you can't do. Life is too short to be close minded. :finger: Those 100+ mph runs on the highway and out through the back roads can kill just as easily as a stand up wheelie can so lets be easy with the self righteousness alright? :flipa:

Don't think you should be all high and mighty like. I seem to remember you being all too excited to be on your dad's bike so you could "finally keep up with the big boys." And as far as freddy goes... i ride with him more than anyone else and he's not an idiot on the bike and rides within his limits.... he doesn't sit there on his bike pulling wheelies up to QS cause he knows thats pushing his limits cause he can't really do em yet. Also don' think you should be knocking or singling people that consider you a riding buddy/friend out for everyone to read. badly done.

Anyhoo, I wasn't dissin on the stuntas... well, maybe I was, but I know Freddy isn't as bad as Steve (R6) and Kenny (R1). Can't wait to see everyone up on the Mt. again!!! I'm itchin for something FAST between my knees. :p

I don't know why, but I am fucken raged. I just got through convincing my father about motorcycles riding. He's cool with me learning, but actually riding routinely... is still a taboo. So I reassured him I'll stay off highways and heavy-traffic streets for a while, I'll use the backroads. Kinda like a hobby, pop and son bonding, hehe. He used to ride motorcycles too, so he can relate. Plus I told him about some rider installing blinking yellow lights for one of the headlights, so he can get the cagers to pay attention..... Well enough backdrop babble.

I just dropped him in the house and went cruisin in my car to somewhere else. Right after I got out the driveway and into the main road, some crazy a**hole, hardly any more than 18 or may be less, just cut me off in his yellow Suzuki with custom tailights. I was doing 60-65. I am guessing the thing was at least Gixxer 750 or up. The idiot was wearing a baseball cap, yellow shirt, khakee shorts, and beach shades. By all means use the damn indicator! I was amazed, because it reminded me of the typical cliched squids that I hear about in this forum. Never have I seen a rider in South Florida, at least without a helmet, going 90+. And I was glad that my father wasn't in the car, otherwise he'd become very conservative about it. lol. Eventually I caught up to him as he slowed down a while before making a turn, but WTF was the point to pulling that crap, "dressed to kill himself".... and was this kid really suicidal....

well guess what guys in japan, yes the same place most sportbikes come from you have to be over i think 25 years old and have lots and lots of experience on a bike, before yu can ride a litre sized bike. for like the first 5 years after getting ur licince i think u have to use a 250cc or smaller, as u get older u can up grade to a bigger bike.

guess how many bike fatalities there are compared to the US.

and this is the freakin place all ur bikes comre from

15 yo on a 600 is beyond stupid.

As bad as it may sound... I agree with him completely... if a dude wants to be a dumb ass and screw himself over on his bike then that is his problem and the dude if rightfully entittled to his well deserved death... keeps the shit head population down and a small portion of the viral infection of dumb ass drivers off the roads by not only removing a portion of the cause but allowing others to see what could happen to them if they join that cause.
