1998 Grand Am thermostatdannygeo7 04-17-2005, 12:09 PM Where in heaven's name is it????? 2.4 L engine Ridenour 04-17-2005, 12:11 PM I believe on the 2.4 it is inside the water pump - but you should wait for more input and welcome to the forum dannygeo7 04-17-2005, 12:18 PM Thanx for the welcome. Bought the car Feb. 26, just came out of shop Friday after being down a week w/ a big bill...now edging towards hot after 5 miles in-town driving. Would rather check thermostat first, but was hoping it was easy, like on the 90 Sunbird I had years back. Ridenour 04-17-2005, 02:18 PM No problem. It may also be time for a radiator flush / fill - that could solve the problem easier then tearing into the thermostat Knifeblade_03 04-17-2005, 06:48 PM Thermostat is located underside of water pump. Towards rear of engine, attached under the pump itself, weird huh? Knifeblade_03 04-17-2005, 07:00 PM Yeah, as ride says , it not easy to pull the .stat, but if ya feel the need~~~~~~~~~ 1] drain coolant 2] unfasten coolant housing bolt, access thru the exhaust manifold, it a bolt/nut two sided thread deal, and is found just under the radiator outlet pipe that drops down from the underside of the water pump. This is NOT at the pump itself, but where the outlet pipe attaches to the engine itself. It is at the oil pan boss. 3] you may have to raise your ride onto jacks 4] remove radiator outlet pipe stud, nfc where this one is, sorry. But it seems to be one of the two bolts that attach the radiator pipe to the pump itself. There are two bolts, it a 2-bolt flange attachement. You have to access the bolt heads from top of flange. 5] Once ya figured all that out, the therm. will drop out with the pipe. Therm. in pipe, spring end out of pipe, gasket on top of therm. 5] Knifeblade_03 04-17-2005, 07:01 PM Note~~~~~~~~~ there is ableed pipe ya have to fuss with afterwards to bleed air from the system. athomas 11-22-2007, 01:18 PM I believe on the 2.4 it is inside the water pump - but you should wait for more input and welcome to the forum How do I install a thermostat in a 1998 Pontiac Grand Am, 2.4, where is the thermostat located J-Ri 11-22-2007, 01:41 PM How do I install a thermostat in a 1998 Pontiac Grand Am, 2.4, where is the thermostat located It was explained above... xeroinfinity 11-22-2007, 11:55 PM Sorry guys this thread is like way old, please do not bring up threads older then 3 months.
