93 Grand Am AC & Manual Window Probrandsneil 04-15-2005, 04:21 PM I have manual windows and the driver's window glass has fallen out of the track in the door and I need to know how to take the inner door panel off so that I can put the window back in place and repair the track. Also, the AC works but it won't put out / move the air. You can feel a difference at the vents and you can hear the difference between low and high, however the air won't blow out good enough. Is it a possibility that the baffles or something in the vents could be blocking the air flow? Because it appears that the AC works fine it just won't push out the air. Where would I find the baffles or the vent work under the hood? Any help would make my summer easier to endure! As you can imagine with no AC blowing and not being able to roll my window down!!! Knifeblade_03 04-18-2005, 06:02 AM Try www.autozone.com, surf their repair guide area for your car. They have a diagram for removal of door and working in the manual window. A/C may need recharging? scaviola 04-18-2005, 11:26 AM I have manual windows and the driver's window glass has fallen out of the track in the door and I need to know how to take the inner door panel off so that I can put the window back in place and repair the track. Also, the AC works but it won't put out / move the air. You can feel a difference at the vents and you can hear the difference between low and high, however the air won't blow out good enough. Does the air blow well on any other settings? Heat, plain vent, etc? If not, then it is likely your evaporator is clogged up with dirt and dust. Regardless of what air setting you have, all air must pass by the evaporator... so if it's clogged up, you get no flow. An easy way to clean it is to remove the blower motor under the hood. You can reach down the hole and feel the clogged evaporator. Spray some good cleaner in, and hose it off. The waste water will drain out the same way as AC water usually does. For the door panel, it is helpful to have the tool to remove the retention clip from the window crank handle. Once you get the handle off, it's just a matter of finding all the screws. I can't speak for the 4-door, but one of the screws was hidden in a tricky spot in my 2-door. jvmrn 04-18-2005, 02:24 PM Inner door removal is very easy. if you look at the inner door you will see some screws around the outside . remove them. there is another screw at underneath the door handle. it can be hard to see. the inner door itself is just held on by clips you have to get a flathead screwdriver and start prying the inner door up then just pull the inner door ....it can be hard sometimes and when the clips do let go it actually sounds like you have broken something but you haven't so dont worry. after the clips have released lift the inner door up and it should come right out. The AC problem i also had. the same symptoms you are having. It is your Evaporator core. it is clogged and is not allowing air to flow through it to your blower fan .....to repair this problem can be pretty costly......it cost me $1100.00 thats parts and labour. i live in canada thats what it cost me.....dont know where you live so not sure if it will be any cheaper. I hope this helps you ....let me know. if you need more info on the 2 problems just reply or make a post. and i will try to give you more info if needed. scaviola 04-18-2005, 02:37 PM It is your Evaporator core. it is clogged and is not allowing air to flow through it to your blower fan .....to repair this problem can be pretty costly......it cost me $1100.00 thats parts and labour. i live in canada thats what it cost me.....dont know where you live so not sure if it will be any cheaper. Good info on getting the door off... it's been so long I had forgotten. I still maintain that on the '93, it's pretty simple to unclog the evaporator core. The only tricky part is that if you've never taken the blower motor out before, you actually have to cut the plastic/rubber along the seam to get the motor out of its housing. This is OK, the shop manual says to do so. Let me know if you need the diagram. With the motor out, the evaporator is exposed (though too far down the hole to see well) and you can wash the gunk off with some cleaner and a strong jet of water. It sure beats having it replaced. Knifeblade_03 04-18-2005, 06:33 PM Quick trick to pop the C-clip that holds handle to shaft. Get a thin rag, work it between the handle washer and the door panel, push outwards both ends, clip moves. jvmrn 04-18-2005, 11:29 PM Hey Scaviola how did you unclog the evaporator core ? i was told by a shop that you cant do that it doesnt work......they just wanted my $$$ i think. scaviola 04-18-2005, 11:57 PM Hey Scaviola how did you unclog the evaporator core ? i was told by a shop that you cant do that it doesnt work......they just wanted my $$$ i think. I didn't know what the problem was at the time, I thought the blower might be bad/obstructed so I removed it to take a look. It was fine, so I reached down into the hole where the blower was and felt all sorts of greasy dirty gunk stuck to the evaporator core. I sprayed a bunch of citrus degreaser down there, then washed it off with a hose. All the junk drained out and the air has been blowing strong ever since. swalt 04-19-2005, 03:25 PM Cleaning the evaporator eh? Thanks for the weekend project. This might explain my lack of flow the past few years. randsneil 04-19-2005, 11:44 PM Thank you all for the good information, I'm going to try and get to it soon (I'm down in the back right now). I'll let you know what the outcome is! Thanks again randsneil 04-19-2005, 11:55 PM Hey scaviola - If you could send me the diagram for removing the blower motor to get to the evaporator for cleaning would be very helpful. Thanks again! I wish I did this years ago. I pulled out the blower motor and thought I had wasted my time as I could not see the evaporator. Problem was, it was so gummed up with crud, grease, leaves, that I could not even see it. I dropped some towels under my vents under the dash and proceeded to shoot some degreaser in throught he hole where the blower came out. It gave me just enough room to shoot the cleaner down the passage at the evaporator. I then sprayed it with a good stream of water and repeated the process about 6 times until the core looked shiny new again. After blowing everything out with a compressor and putting the blower back in, I started it up and the flow from the vents was unbelievable. The air conditioning is also now colder than ever. I did get a little water in the car from flushing it, but not enough to worry about. Just soaked the sponge on the firewall a bit. I recommend this to anyone who suspects they have airflow restriction. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
