coilcovers, shocks, springsVroinshk06 04-12-2005, 12:30 AM can someone explain the difference between coilcovers, springs, and shocks? RaceMyGhost 04-12-2005, 01:44 AM with coilovers, you're able to adjust your ride height BullShifter 04-12-2005, 03:02 AM Shocks are a damping device that absord energy created by springs. They stop the car from bouncing, keep the tires on the road. Your car uses struts, they are a type of shock absorber with springs mounted to them and structural unlike a shock. http://www.modacar.com/Merchant2/struts_honda_files/koni_yellow_struts.jpg Springs are the coil looking thing. They support the car allowing the suspension to move, taking in a lot of energy from turning, braking, etc. http://www.modacar.com/Merchant2/springs/hr_race_springs.jpg Coilovers are springs and struts designed to work with each other. They usually have adjustable damping and always have adjustable ride height. http://www.modacar.com/Merchant2/coilover_honda_files/hks_coil.jpg Vroinshk06 04-12-2005, 02:04 PM so coilcovers are just a combination of shocks and springs? also will all shocks and springs work together? BullShifter 04-13-2005, 02:21 AM so coilcovers are just a combination of shocks and springs? yes thats basically a coilover There are coilover sleeves too, they look like a normal spring but have an adjustment collar on the bottom. also will all shocks and springs work together? Yes, that's only way it will work. Springs are compressed and mounted to struts(shocks) Even without struts, there still has to be some kind of "shock" on a spring type suspension. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
