Garmin eTrex Legend and Metro GuideChuckH 04-03-2002, 02:31 AM Does anyone know if I can download GPS information to MetroGuide in real time so I can get directions and maps as I drive? I thought I could, but can't figure out how to make it work. Maybe I'm dumb? I can upload and download maps normally, but I want to display where I'm going on the big screen. If anyone knows if this works or how I would appreciate the feedback. Thanks! :D wqbang 04-03-2002, 10:42 AM You need to download the latest patches available from Garmin. http://www.garmin.com/cartography/mapSource/download.html One of the last changes adds a tab on the right with allows you to track in real time. You can also do this with Topo USA, which comes out really nice. I think I am going to try to make some good maps of the trails we take using it. Bryan ChuckH 04-04-2002, 02:58 AM Thanks! I did the MapSource upgrade sucessfully and now am trying to upgrade the eTrex itself. Unfortunately, I think that upgrade crashed! :( It says "erasing...(this may take a few minutes)," but it's been about 20 minutes! I'm not sure that's what they had in mind. Always soemthing! OK, I stopped it and restarted. Seems to be working now. Phew! :) Schludwiller 04-04-2002, 03:12 AM Flyin'S has the best setup I've seen so far. Independent mount for his Sony VIAO with GPS continuous feedback and DVD movies. :D wqbang 04-04-2002, 10:32 AM Originally posted by Schludwiller Flyin'S has the best setup I've seen so far. If I drop it in a mudhole or run it over it isn't a huge loss. It has a P233MMX processor, TFT display, 24X CD, a whopping 3 Gig HD, and 96 MB of RAM. It has two main functions: Display GPS information, and display pictures from my camera. It was specifically purchased to be used in the truck. Sure, it doesn't have a DVD player, but I can't watch DVD's on the road anyway and if I do want to watch DVD's in the truck, I can take my portable player. I did buy a portable battery powered CD burner though so i can burn photos to CD after uploading them to the computer. :) FWIW, I think it's a neat little computer and does everything I need it to and more. Actually, I would be a little upset if I ran over it or dropped it in a mudhole; just not as upset as I would be if it were a $2500 machine. It will be interesting to see how the swing arm is going to mount and fit. Hoepfully I'll have more on that this weekend. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
