My Taurus, when I turn mostly left, the steering wheel sounds like it is rubbing (mostly occurs when the wheel get near upside down 180 degrees). Sounds like a low pitched-squeak. I don't think its power steering, it sounds like its in the column. Any suggestions, or sound familiar to anyone?

Check to see if the steering wheel is rubbing the plastic trim that covers steering column first. This will give you a squeak. These will distort a little from time.

I don't know if it is the same thing, but my steering makes a groaning sound when i turn hard left or right. Apparently it is just normal operation for Taurus's.
