Hey guys! Now I am not going to splurt off and say that my lincoln mark VIII killed a Mach 1 because that is utter BS....but I do want to say that we were rolling down the highway around 60 mph then we both hit it. 60 mph is my 2nd gear and takes me to 100mph. From 60-110 mph I was EVEN with the Mach 1 (he might have been a foot or so ahead) but then around 110mph the Mach 1 just shot ahead of me! I was proud that my Lincoln was about to take him to 110 but then I guess the weight differences and gearing differences just smashed me after that 110 mark. Oh well! It was exciting though. Let me know what you think!! My goal someday is to take the fuel limiter off the car and see where it will take me. Now its set to shut down at 132 mph! BORING!! HAHAHA....anyway...good racin!

No mention of my saturn in this at all haha?? I thought i kept up pretty good with a 300 hp car. And remember that was after i beat the CRX to get the Mach to notice us. Too bad the jerk tried to sideswipe me at 90. I need a faster car...

you kept up pretty good....but by the time we were at the 90-100 mph mark you were a few good car lengths behind....sry....but earlier you did keep up pretty good for a saturn :licka: ! But it doesn't really matter....it was still a fun race!

Mark VIII beatin a Mach 1 isn't ridiculous...my g/f's brother had his Mark VIII running 10's w/o nitrous. Then he put nitrous in and the engine blew, but it can happen.

I'm sure you can make them fast but no mention of any mods here. Is the car modded at all?

hey....no mods yet...I was thinkin about it but the car has 137,000 miles and I was debating on whether or not the money would go to waste. Its a nice car...and HOW IN THE HELL did your friend get the Mark VIII to run low 10's???? Thats amazing! I would love to see my car get to that point but its not there now....just a new trans, new spark plug wires, and thats it. Anyway...I go street racin in Raleigh all the time and the look on these people's faces when my "old person car" pulls ahead is priceless :naughty: !! later!

Would it be a good investment to modify the Mark VIII with 137,000 miles on it?? Trans has already been replaced and I am thinking about turning it into a true sleeper. What are your suggestions and how much money do I need to set aside for a job such as this? Thanks and I will talk to yo guys later!

Is this a new Mach 1 we're talking about?? Is it possible he was toying with you until 110?

no i was behind them the whole time, it was a new mach 1 and he was dead serious, as he practically scraped my door trying to go past me to race the mark viii

well I'd say do a dyno run on the car, test your compression and get a track slip to see if the engine is behaving as it should, see if it's in good enough shape to mod. no sense in investing money on a car that is below stock specs. but from the sound of your race it looks to me like its in excellent shape.

Well this kid is definitly a motoring freak. Everytime I went over there new parts were coming in the mail, and more parts were coming out of the car. Basically he had no interior but the basics, built the engine from the block up, did suspension and all that, and that was that. I don't know exactly what he used but I saw Cobra on the valve covers. Now that was a sleeper....aside from the fact that it shook the whole neighborhood when he started it. He's now working on another Mark VIII...now that I think of it, it may have been a Mark VII that he had in the 10's...w/e it was it was ugly but it was a beast lol. If you know how to shoot for 10's, then mileage wont matter much since you'll be replacing 80% of the car.

wow....sounds impressive! I know it but I hate to admit it but I know that I will never replace 80% of the car....its just too much money. I was wondering though if anyone knew what mods were the cheapest and would produce the most bang for the buck! Thanks again! Later

Cheapest bang for the buck: Headers/Downpipe, Skip-Cats, Catback, Cold Air Intake.
Letting your engine breathe better is the cheapest/easiest power gain. It's only restricted in the first place because of emissions laws, so make sure you get it inspected before you do mods if your state cares (I know NY does).

Weight reduction is a somewhat free mod to get a little better performance. Removing the spare, back seats, buying lighter rims...anything that is dead weight and unnecessary to you should go if performance is in mind. Now on a daily driver you're gonna want your spare, but take it out when you go to the track.
