1997 Transport Power window regulator

My wife's Transport driver's side window seemed to come off the track. I removed the door panel and checked the tracks, regulator, and rollers. The tracks are fine, the rollers are not broken nor did the regulator pop out of them. Frankly, I don't see any broken or damaged parts at all, except there is lots of play fore and aft in the window and regulator. Does this mean the regulator needs to be replaced. Has anyone had this problem before. I am perplexed to say the least. The dealership says they can only sell me the whole module at the cost of $500! I found a website that lists the regulator only for $18. Can anyone confirm this is indeed the regulator, I realize it's hard without seeing it, but if someone has had a similar problem it might help to know what fixed it.
