I would like to adjust the valves on my 98 5.7 GMC but i,m not
sure what to set them at. I checked into and found out that the truck has roller lifters. Can someone please give some info on the correct setting.

Remove valve covers and count the number of threads exposed from each rocker stud. You should see the same number of threads exposed at each stud. If you were to adjust them I would highly suggest in a chiltons or haynes or even better a factory manual. There is a procedure involved that tells you to turn the crank until the #1 piston is on its firing stroke and at TDC. Then from there you adjust #1 intake and exhaust valves #3 intake, #8 exhaust, etc. Then rotate the motor one full revolution and adjust the rockers you didnt get on the first round. The reason being for only adjusting certain ones at a certain crankshaft position is that the valves are closed and no pressure is exerted on the valve springs. You loosen each rocker nut to the point where the rocker arm is loose and then with two fingers, rotate the pushrod. Turn down the rocker nut just until the pushrod stops turning freely, this is zero lash. Then tighten the rocker nut one full turn. Your done with that valve. Again buy a manual that will illustrate the procedure completely, as there are too many details that I may overlook if I explained it to you. I have a chiltons myself and I am planning on buying a Helm factory manual.
