Is my clutch going? DCjetta 04-04-2005, 11:10 AM
The clutch on my 96 2.0 liter jetta has been releasing higher and higher recently. I haven't noticed any slipping. The car has 100k on it, I believe it's on the first clutch, and I treat the clutch very well. Should I stop driving the car and take it in immediately, or is there a way to adjust the "automatically adjusting" clutch? Many thanks. boschmann 04-04-2005, 09:43 PM 100K on an original clutch isn't bad. I'd run it until you notice a little slipping in high gear. As long as you don't overheat it by revving the engine when it's slipping it won't leave you stranded & shouldn't cause any damage. If it really bothers you just replace it now. IowaHawkeye24 05-10-2005, 10:36 PM If you speed shift at all ie. merging on to major roadways it will start to slip. I have a 110,000 miles on my jetta with the origional clutch and i have major slipping while doing these shifts. I will shift and it will just rev up to about 5000 RPMS so if you do any of this you may want to get it replaced, otherwise under normal shifting conditons i have had no problems as of yet.
