1995 Talon ESi vs. 1983ish Corolla--- 04-02-2005, 01:14 AM Yeah, they're both slow. My car is stock with the exception of the Tokico suspension shit. The Corolla had rims, cat-back exhaust, and probably more under the hood. But to the point: I had just dropped one of two friends off and we were on the way to the 2nd one's house, and pull onto the highway to get there. We're cruising along and I see some 83ish Corolla riding my ass bad, so I give it some gas and get him off my ass. So he follows suit, and again is back on my ass. I drop it down and get past the SUV in front of me and into some open road, and my exit is about a mile away. I look back and he has followed me so I let off the gas so he can get next to me. I can visibly see my exit now so I move to the right and he stays in my lane, and comes up beside me. I hear him floor it, so I just drop it into 4th (I didn't want to go too fast, my exit was about 3/4 mile away) and floor it. I'm even with him for about 1-2 seconds, and then start pulling car lengths on him easily. By the time I get to my exit I'm going 95-100ish and he's about 5 car lengths behind. I waved my hand "Bye" out the window as we exited and he revv'd his shit up again. I thought Corollas were more powerful than this? I have a stock 420A engine (140 hp) and I still put that many car lengths on him? Anywho, this was the first kill in my Talon (actually probably my 3rd-4th, but that's not counting the Saturns with Pep-Boys packages on them) so I figured I'd post it. Sleepr awd 04-02-2005, 01:31 AM corollas back then i thought didn't have much more than 100hp at the crank, or at leats the infamous "86" didn't --- 04-02-2005, 01:40 AM Ahhh that explains a lot. Igovert500 04-02-2005, 12:59 PM I doubt they even had that triple digits at the crank. My uncle had one when I was alot younger. Thing didn't really move at all, but lasted forever. mixxt 04-02-2005, 03:15 PM with all the miles and what not on that corolla it was probably no where near is factory hp rating...which is like 94, good kill tho i love dsm Marc-OS 04-02-2005, 03:52 PM if it was an SR5, it's more like 70hp. definetely not fast stock, GT-S runs low 16's if you're really good. but of course, you can always make them fast. --- 04-02-2005, 05:49 PM lol I really don't understand why someone would put money into the engine of a car with that little horsepower. drftk1d 04-02-2005, 07:12 PM lol I really don't understand why someone would put money into the engine of a car with that little horsepower. I'M TAKUMI SON TOFU DRIZIFT JDM TYTE KNEEGA!!!!!1ONOE!!!!ElEven!!!! tr0ike 04-02-2005, 09:27 PM Yeah, if you didn't win I'd have to kick you. My friend just picked up an '84 corolla, has a SOHC (I believe), 1.6L ... can't get much slower. Only the 16V ae-86 GTS and later FX [to my virtually-nonexistant Toyota knowledge] have much potential. that said, they're good for swaps, my friend hopes to get a Celica motor in there some day. --- 04-03-2005, 12:56 AM Yeah, if you didn't win I'd have to kick you. Very true. If I remember right, the front ends are huge. You could fit a monster in there. paulsdsm 04-04-2005, 12:58 PM why don't u sell your esi and buy tsi? I used to have a 97 talon esi and after a while i sold it and bought 95 tsi, u going to see big diffirence. Sold esi for $4000 and bought tsi for $4400. --- 04-04-2005, 03:57 PM I like my ESi. I got it from a guy my step-father works with for $1500. One-owner, 130k miles, never driven hard, body and interior in excellent condition. It's fast enough for me, my previous car was a 62 hp SOHC Civic. :) --- 04-05-2005, 04:07 PM ... can't get much slower. I don't guess you've driven a base model Civic before. :icon16: Sleepr awd 04-05-2005, 04:44 PM It's fast enough for me, my previous car was a 62 hp SOHC Civic. :) there's something to be said for people that know their limits, i've got a buddy w/ a GS turbo eclipse 4g63 swap in his 94 and he's got a good bit over 300hp, but he never races b/c there is too much power he's also gotten in a lot less trouble than the rest of us tr0ike 04-06-2005, 04:21 PM I don't guess you've driven a base model Civic before. :icon16: learned to drive on a 1988 Civic LX sedan auto :p Honda 1987 hatch #s: 0-60: 13.6, 1/4 mile 19.3 1984 Corolla 13.7 / 19.3 ... aww yeah, Honda would own that thing by at least a sidemarker! 1.5L 8v to the Toyota's 1.6 ... oddly enough, Honda put out 92hp / 89 lb-ft, Toyota only 70hp / 82 lb-ft (lower range though). vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
