My winshield right now has streaks from when I cleaned it with a paper towel and Windex. I need something better.

try water and a cloth towel, you know... newspaper works really well... don't ask why, it just does.

I used to just use glass cleaner and paper towels, but since i learnt about newspaper, its what I use.

Oh I'm not sure if its true, but I think newspaper works so well because of the ink in it.

the inside or the outside? for the outside I use regular car wash then wax it. For the inside I use windex and a paper towl and that works fine for me but for a replacement method Im gonna have to go with ac427

newspaper works cause of the ink yes....
and if you want to get other crap off the winshield use, vinegar....
and a cloth... wipe it all over , be gernerous with it...
and to clean your blades... use the same.. a lot of window dirt is from the blades..

Lot of people swear by Sprayway Glass Cleaner. It is the best commercial product I have come across. Stoner Invisible Glass is another great product. GlassPlus comes in 3rd, but is easily available locally. The above posts are also good methods.

if you can find a dealership who has Zep40 non-streaking cleaner in their stock room, try and get some from them. Im pretty sure most major dealerships have detail bays like the one i work in, so you can probably buy some cleaner from the customer purchase area. either that or GM products carries a glass cleaner that works pretty good. you might also try to get some window towels if you want to try these, they usually work best.

i don't think it's the ink in newspaper... but more the fact that when crumpled it has more edges than a normal cleaning cloth, therefore leaves less streaking and whatnot...

Newspaper works because the paper obsorbs and scrubs, and the ink polishes. As stated before, Sprayaway is one of the best window cleaners for use on automobiles, it has an alcohol base. Ammonia is not sufficiant enough to remove the film build up caused by the deterioration of your vinyl and also accelertes this condition. A good method is to go horizontal on the outside, verticle on the inside. This lets you see which side still has streaks to remove. Any good "lint free" rag will work. Do not use paper towel, it has wetting agents added to it to hold moisture and aid in obsorbtion.

Can someone explain the newspaper process?

Do you wet it or just crumple it?

spray the glass surface with your cleaning solution, crumple the newspaper and use it like a cloth

DO NOT get the newspaer close to your interior fabrics though, the ink will stain....Newspaer is very fiberous, and the ink polishes....Another great product is Stoners Invisible Glass....it is also tint safe...anything with alcohol should not be used on tinted windows....

Newspapers on the windows is the most inexpensive and best way to get them clean. Like exceldetail said - don't use it on anything but the glass.

Alright. I clean approx. 100 windsheilds a day...
Here is what you do:
1.Start the car
2.Take a quality cleaner such as Stoners Invisible Glass, or Pro Glass foam cleaner
3.Spray the window as needed
4.Crank up the defroster as high as it goes, as hot as it goes.
5.Take a slightly damp terry cloth, or very soft rag (if you wash your rags with out putting them in the dryer *ie when you take them out of the washer, fold them and leave them to dry on their own, they work exclent).
6.Box the window
7.With long strokes side to side, move your way from the bottom to the top.
8.Flip rag, and box window again.
9.Allow defroster to completely dry window, and it should be 100% streak free.

That has worked for me as long as I've had my vehicle.

Do Not clean windows in direct sunlight!

Use a quality glass cleaner(foam my choice) Stoner:bigthumb: or Sprayway

After cleaning the glass use a clean dry microfiber towel & wipe down(buff)one more time. Use this towel for this purpose only & dont let any interior dressing get on it.
