2001 4Run dsn't shift properly.Dongus 04-01-2005, 04:17 PM My 2001 4Run Ltd. worked just fine this AM. This PM while driving away from curb, engine high revved and jerked into next gear. Trying to accelerate down the street, engine and/or tranny whined and never got into high gear. Dash gear shift indicator lights all bright execept for drive, which is dim. Also, four green lights on dash 4WD indicator are on and won't go out regardless of what I do with the 4WD selector button. Outside temp is 60 deg + and clear. All scheduled maintenance by the book since I bought it new. I'm not a mechanic, but does this sound like a speed sensor prob or do I need to go to the bank? TIA, Don. :banghead: Dongus 04-04-2005, 12:06 PM Someone once said that the difference between ignorance and stupidity was that the ignorant person is aware of their stupidity, but the stupid person is unaware of their ignorance. Well, at least I may just have been ignorant. The reason my previously dependable Toyota 4Runner wouldn't shift out of second was simple--that's the way it works when the transfer case is set for low range. After checking one more time before the tow truck arrived, I found the lever in "low." Putting it back in "high" corrected the problem with the car or in this case, with the driver. :loser: :p :banghead: corbinwaterski 04-04-2005, 12:43 PM Hey at least you manned up and admitted it. I don't know if I could. Nice find. Brian R. 04-17-2005, 02:57 PM Much better that you found it that some mechanic who would then charge you $1200 for a mythical rebuilt transfer case to fix your "problem". vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
