GM kicking one of it's brands...silveradoking 03-30-2005, 08:22 PM I don't know if anyone of you guys have heard about it, but Gm is kicking on of it's cheaper brands. They don't want to say which brand it is going to be, but I have my money on the Buicks.....Thed older oldsmobiles were good, and they phased them out ending this past year. The next brand ( Buicks, I think) will be completely eliminated this year, so there will b eno next year models....anyways, thought that may be of some interest..... v10_viper 03-30-2005, 08:27 PM This is what really pisses me off. why did they ever get rid of Oldsmobile?? I woulda kicked Buick's ass out way before Oldsobile. We own an Aurora and a Silhouette and they are great vehicles. Especially the Aurora. I know they had the Intrigue, Alero, and the Bravada and as far as I've known they were great vehicles, what really happened here? I mean wasn't it more expensvie to come out with all these brand new cars for Buick instead of kickin Buick out and keeping Oldsmobile? TexasF355F1 03-30-2005, 08:35 PM My Operations Mgt Prof was saying today that Pontiac is a possibility as well. Don't know why you say 'cheaper' brands. All GM's are cheap no matter how you slice it. I drive one and love it, but it's a heep of plastic parts. Moose is loose 03-30-2005, 08:42 PM Remember. GM also owns Opel, Saturn, Saab, Volvo, and has shares in Hyundai and Kia. Could be any of those. Opel, Saab, and Vovlo make MUCH cheaper models for Euro use only, so it is possible it's one of those. BTW.. I read today (MSN) that GM's future is very uncertain. They are reporting projected losses this year of over 1 BILLION dollars (Muahahah) and, the rumor is, will be filling for bankruptcy later this year. Also a rumor of a buyout from another automaker. Times they are a changing. silveradoking 03-30-2005, 09:47 PM I didn't mean to say cheaper, what I mean't to say was one of those brands that are not making that much of a profit for GM........Sorry.... The GM corparation is headed for the toilet as of now, there is no deneying that it is a fact. All the need is GMC, Chevy, and Pontiac. Also they need to cut back the number of models they have and keep and improve the ones they can make the most money off of. my $.02 BlenderWizard 03-30-2005, 10:45 PM I think they should ditch all of the lesser brands anyway. Hummer gets a lot of industrial and military sales, too, so i doubt it's going anywhere silveradoman 03-30-2005, 11:14 PM Ok, but they gotta keep Cadillac, too. Hummer gets a lot of industrial and military sales, too, so i doubt it's going anywhere Hummer isnīt GM per say, they made some deal with the military hummer manufacturer (whatīs their name?) and licensed it. Itīs built on the same line as the military hummer, but GMized for looks, at least that is what I heard. Moose is loose 03-30-2005, 11:43 PM Ford owns Volvo. Sorry, I was confused. I was thinking of Skoda, which GM does own. Faze3 03-31-2005, 09:23 AM If you look at Generalmotors.com, it displays logos for: OnStar, XM, Chevrolet, Pontiac, Buick, Cadillac, GMC, Oldsmobile, Saturn, Hummer, Saab, Holden, Opel, and Vauxhall. Just an FYI. Silverado Brethern 03-31-2005, 09:49 AM Ok yeh sorry...Keep GMC, Chevy, Cadillac, and Pontiac. and i do belive the military has its own private hummer dealer or something of the sort and GM has little to do with that, i think. As far as hummer goes they sell to a small market anyway, and THEY ARE UGLY AS SIN!! I wouldnt drive an H2, the H1's are cool but i think GM should drop Hummer entirely. That doesnt mean they would stop making hummers tho, they would still sell them separately from GM. Keep those 4 brands and cut back on the number of model and focus more on the quality of the most popular vehicles and GM should at least be able to save face. The military version of the Hummer is made by AMGeneral See http://www.amgeneral.com/vehicles.php/amSid/b0a73411ea239a31ee7ecf0cabb637b0 They made 'em until 2002 when GM started making them (according to their webpage) and their wholly-owned subsidiary General Engine Products made the motors. Faze3 03-31-2005, 12:35 PM http://www.lynchhummer.com/History.html GM does manufacture the engines, I do know that. In the civilian version, yes. Not in the military version. miltystu 03-31-2005, 08:13 PM I don't know if anyone of you guys have heard about it, but Gm is kicking on of it's cheaper brands. I think GM has been waisting too much time and money on there saturn line. Saturns have improved while there major brands get neglected. I have owned at least ten Chevys and never had any problems with them what so ever but by listening to the people here I can see its enevitable. :banghead: vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
