'98 Tahoe 4x4 actuator motor problems

My 98 Tahoe is costing me a lot of money for actuator motors for the front axle!! I'm on my 3rd one in a little over a year.It looks like it was replaced with the new style(plastic) before I bought the truck. When they burn out, they stick in the out (engaged) position. What usually happens is that if I forget to take it out of 4x4 and drive on pavement for a few miles or more, this is when it burns out and sticks engaged. Currently, my motor is burned out and stuck engaged. If I try to engage 4x4 while moving, the light on the switch just blinks. I found that if I stop, turn off the ignition, restart the vehicle, I can easily engage four wheel drive.Last motor that burned out, I couldn't engage four wheel at all. Other than this, I'm not getting and warning lights on the four wheel drive system when it runs the diags as I'm starting the vehicle. I should mention this is the system with the dreaded "auto" 4x4 feature. Does anyone have any ideas on what may be causing the problem?? I'm praying it's not the encoder motor. Thanks.
